Visit the Library with Your Child to Check out Books to Read at Home

This year, {Insert Name of Site} is participating in the 2017 Million Word Challenge, a reading campaign that promotes a culture of literacy at home. The campaign encourages students to read millions of words, outside of school time from_______________ (Dates). Our school will select one student winner to receive a prize. Here is how you can help your child during the campaign:

· Register for free literacy tips to become eligible to win weekly prizes by calling (888) 766-2242 or registering on-line at www.familiesinschools.org/million-word-challenge.

· Visit the library with your child to check out books to read at home.

· Set up a family reading time at home when everyone reads at the same time every day.

· Have daily conversations with your child and ask them questions about the books they are reading

· Help your child track the books they are reading on the Million Word Challenge Reading Log. When they fill it up, make sure he/she turns it in to their teacher and asks for a new one to keep reading.

I hope you will encourage your child to continue reading beyond the bell and promote the Million Word Challenge in your home. We will ask each child to turn his/her Reading Log to their teacher as soon as they fill it up and ask for blank logs to continue reading.
