WIND AND PERCUSSION LARGE ENSEMBLE AUDITION INFORMATION

FALL 2017

Thank you for your interest in the concert bands and orchestra at Virginia Tech! We have a wonderful year of repertoire planned for all our large ensembles and regardless of which ensemble you are eventually placed in, this year promises to be one of both excellent music and opportunities for growth.

Please take some time to read the following information carefully and don’t hesitate to email us with any questions you may have.

Wind and percussion auditions for the New River Valley Symphony Orchestra and Wind Ensemble will take place between Sunday, August 27 and Wednesday, August 30. The full schedule as well as the required excerpts are included on the audition website (http://www.performingarts.vt.edu/create-with-us/auditions). All auditions will be blind and will take place in Squires 243.

To sign up for an audition for the New River Valley Symphony Orchestra or the Wind Ensemble, please use the following link: https://goo.gl/forms/QGf5ev67c6ZmpLXp1. If you have an unavoidable conflict with the available times, please let me know as soon as possible.

Audition results for both groups will be posted by Wednesday, August 30. Students who are not placed into either ensemble will be eligible to audition for Symphony Band. The required audition material for Symphony Band is included in the materials for NRVSO and Wind Ensemble so there is no need to learn additional repertoire.

Symphony Band auditions will take place during the first and second week of classes. A sign-up sheet to schedule Symphony Band auditions will be on the door of Squires 241 before classes begin. If you are only auditioning for Symphony Band, you do not need to go through the audition process for the New River Valley Symphony Orchestra and the Wind Ensemble. However, please be sure to download the required audition excerpts from the audition website.

Again, if you have any questions about this process, please don’t hesitate to ask. I look forward to hearing you play. Happy practicing!
