Using PowerPoint to Create Presentations with Digital Images

The purpose of this Job aid is to help you create presentations using Power Point, and images from the internet. For this example, we will be using the website www.pics4learning.com Students and teachers are allowed to use the images form this site free of charge for educational purposes.

Step 1: Selecting images

Go to www.pics4learning.com on the home page, look for the image list. Scroll down and click on “history.”

This will present a new list. Click “American Revolution.”

Find an image that will suit your purpose.

Step2: Saving to the desktop


Right click on the image and go down to “Save picture as”

A new window will open called “Save Picture.”

On the pull down menu, highlight and click “desktop.” This is where you will store your images. They will be automatically erased at the end of the day.


Click “Save.” The image is now stored on your desktop. Repeat these steps to add the rest of your needed images.

Keep this website open in case you need to make any changes.


Step 3: Opening PowerPoint

At the lower left-hand corner of your screen, click the start button.

Then go up to “Programs” on the drop-up menu, and click on it.

This opens another menu.

Slide over to “Microsoft Office” and click.

This opens another menu. Slide over to “Microsoft PowerPoint” and click.


Step 4: Choosing a slide layout

You should now have a box on your screen like the one below.

Be sure to click on the circle next to “Blank presentation.”

Then click on the highlighted square that says “OK.”

This should call up a box like the one below.


Click on the box in the lower left-hand corner “Text & Clip Art.”

Then hit the “OK” button.

This will call up a blank slide for you.


Step 5: Composing your slide

Single click on “Click to add title”

Type in your title.

Next, click on “Click to add text”

Add your text here.

Step 6: Adding the image

Double click where it says to double click.

Click on the tab that says “Pictures.”


Then click on the “Import clips” button at the lower right-hand corner of the new screen. It will pop up a new menu “Add pictures to Clip Gallery.” Be sure that the “Look in” Menu says “Desktop”



Select the image that you want on this slide by clicking on the image’s title, then click “open.”

In this sheet, I’ve chosen a powder horn. I checked the box labeled “Academic” and then hit “OK.”


Highlight the picture that you want, then click “Insert.”


This will bring you back to your slide with the image inserted.


At the top of the screen, click on “Insert.” This will give you a pull-down menu. Click on “New Slide.”

This will bring you back to the screen in step #3.



Proceed through the steps again until you have the required number of slides.

Step 7: Print and save

Before saving your work on your share drive, go to the file button at the top of the page and click on “Print.”

This will give you the option below:


Highlight “Handouts (3 slides per page) then hit “OK.”

Save your work.
