A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in loving memory and honor of Lucas "Luke" McKinley Woodward.

WHEREAS, it is with heavy hearts and deep sadness we learn of the premature passing of Luke Woodward, and we are reminded of the grief and suffering inflicted upon his family and friends, how precious he was to his loved ones, and how his loved ones have been denied the opportunity of witnessing him reach his full potential; and

WHEREAS, Luke Woodward was born on May 14, 1977, a native of Owensboro, Daviess County, Kentucky, and he prematurely traversed these earthly bounds on February 23, 2003; and

WHEREAS, Luke Woodward was the loving son of Norman and Pam Woodward, and he was the loving brother of Seth Woodward, all of Maceo, Kentucky; and

WHEREAS, Luke Woodward was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Owensboro; he graduated from Daviess County High School and the University of Missouri, where he was a journalism major; he was a May candidate for graduation from the University of Kentucky School of Law; and upon graduation, he had accepted a position with the law firm of Kerrick, Grise, Stiver, and Coyle in Bowling Green; and

WHEREAS, Luke Woodward will be remembered for the many friends he made and sustained, and the enthusiasm and optimism he displayed throughout his life; he had a great passion for sports, and while a student at Daviess County High School, he and his partner won the state tennis doubles championship in 1995; while attending the University of Missouri, he was captain of the tennis team for two years; he played on the University of Kentucky Law School's flag football and softball teams, and during the Thanksgiving holidays, he arranged a series of basketball and football games for his family; during the summer, he was a children's tennis instructor in Southampton, New York; and within the past two years, he had taken up golf and snow-boarding; and

WHEREAS, Luke Woodward was held in high esteem by his peers; he treated others with respect and dignity; and his endearing smile, keen wit, generosity, and affable manner will be sorely missed by those who had the good fortune of knowing him; and

WHEREAS, a life spent worthily should be measured by deeds, not years, and through his compassion, enthusiasm, and genuine love and concern for his fellow man, Luke Woodward is worthy of the highest commendation; and

WHEREAS, the premature passing of Luke Woodward has left a void that cannot be filled, and he is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The House of Representatives does hereby express its profound sense of sorrow upon the premature passing of Lucas "Luke" McKinley Woodward, and extends its most heartfelt sympathy to his family and many friends.

Section 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Lucas "Luke" McKinley Woodward.

Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mr. and Mrs. Norman Woodward, 1679 Stinnett Road, Maceo, Kentucky 42355.
