Essay Form & Guidelines
1. Essays are limited to three double-spaced pages and must be typed. Minimum 11 point type. Handwritten essays will not be considered. Essays must be on the COEHS Scholarship/Fellowship Essay Form (see link below) and include the date and applicant’s name.
2. Only one essay is required but it must include any information required by individual scholarships/fellowships you wish to be considered for.
Example: there are some scholarships/fellowships for teachers who wish to teach in urban schools. These awards may require that your essay contains information about why you wish to teach in an urban school.
3. Essay should describe how you will benefit from the scholarship or fellowship.
4. Essay tips: Other than the information mentioned in the above guidelines, there are no specific topical requirements for the essay. This is your opportunity to let the selection committee know a little bit about who you are as well as your goals for the future. Student essays in the past have touched on topics such as:
· Their proudest achievement
· The toughest obstacle they’ve experienced or are experiencing
· Why they chose their major or current area of study
· Their goals once they receive their degree
