What are values and why do they matter?
Values matter because they affect what we do and how we treat people.
From childhood we learn about the world around us and our place in it. We develop deeply-held beliefs about how the word works and who we are as people. Those beliefs form our values.
Values – what we believe in
Attitudes – how we think about feel about things.
Behaviour – what we do and how we treat people
There are lots of values, attitudes and behaviours that social care workers need to provide high quality care.
Think about the terms values, attitudes and behaviours, and how they apply to your role.
Identify three values that you need as a social care worker and think about how they are relevant to your role. One example of a value might be ‘respect people’s individuality.’
