Implementation Champion “Charge”/Roles and Responsibilities

(1) Overall - serve as champions and advocates for the implementation activities of the assigned strategic plan goal for the next 24 months; work with the President and Chancellors to ensure effective and meaningful execution of the assigned goals, initiatives and action items by those who “own” the processes at each campus/institute and in the System Administration.

(2) Initially, launch and lead the phase one implementation actions that have been designated for Goals 1-5 (indicated in blue on the worksheet and summarized below) – note that a phase one activity for Goal 5 has now been identified, that the implementation team for Goal 2 has 3 action items and for Goal 4 has two action items):

·  Goal 1 – Determine Alternative Educational Delivery Systems (Initiative 4, Action 2)

·  Goal 2 –

[1] Form the System Research Committee and determine the operating practices and areas of system focus; align with UT’s strategic research goals and initiatives (Initiative 1, Action 1)

[2] Develop the Industry Advisory Council; determine operating practices and area of focus; define integration activities with UT’s research goals and initiatives (Initiative 2, Action 3)

[3] Use the UT System Research Committee to define and develop outcome and impact measures and ensure compliance (Initiative 3, Action 1)

·  Goal 3 – Develop Outreach and Engagement Models (Initiative 1, Action 3)

·  Goal 4 – Assess System Systems and Processes to ensure service delivery, support and barrier elimination for campus and institute strategic goals and initiatives (Initiative 1, Action 1 and Action 2)

·  Goal 5 – Form a System Marketing and Communications Committee (Initiative 2, Action 1)

Next steps and deliverables:

ü  Attend 3 more scheduled Implementation Champions meetings for phase one (in-person or teleconference) – Oct. 18 (10-12 ET, 8th Floor Conference Room, Andy Holt Tower), Nov. 13 (2-4 ET, 8th Floor Conference Room, Andy Holt Tower) and Dec. 12 (10-12 ET, location TBD),

ü  Complete the phase one charge, which is to determine the first 18-24 months of operating activities (see Worksheet in blue for details)

ü  Establish own process to complete that activity and provide a progress report to President and Chancellors by Dec. 12; identify and collaborate with System and campus “process owners” and subject experts necessary to engage for successful results; coordinate and communicate with other implementation teams

ü  Coordinate with other implementation teams as appropriate

ü  Identify milestones and benchmarks to track progress

ü  Ensure regular reporting of metrics into the dashboard; assist in further refinement of metrics

ü  Surface other issues as they arise – such as budgets or human resources that might impede progress and ways to improve the process

ü  Be available to champion other initiatives and actions per each goal during the first two years of plan implementation

ü  In addition, by Sept. 30, provide 1-2 questions to engage alumni discussions at Leadership Weekend [email to RJ Valentino]

Other follow up:

ü  Complete “Accountable Parties” section on implementation worksheet, leads to be identified, next 30 days– Keith Carver, The Napa Group [these parties will determine their processes; a mechanism with timelines and milestones will be developed for their reporting to the System President]

ü  Communications plan – inform community on ongoing basis – System Communications Office

ü  Intranet Sharepoint site – Keith Carver
