HES: Sustainable Agriculture Project
Purpose:
To research one aspect of sustainable agriculture and how one local farm utilizes the concepts behind sustainable agriculture to run a successful farm.
What:
· You and your group will create a public service announcement (using iMovie) concerning one concept of sustainable agriculture
1. Green farming technologies
2. Water management
3. Soil management
4. Energy management
5. Waste management
6. Low-input food
o Your PSA should include:
§ A brief description of the concept
§ How the concept is carried out on farms
§ How the concept differs from industrial farming
§ Why it is an important concept to the environment or human health (or both)
§ Why there is opposition to the concept
· You and your group will create a PowerPoint showcasing a local organic farm (in Chester, Delaware, or Montgomery County). The presentation should include:
o One crop or product that the farm specializes in
o A brief description of their farming methods (especially how they fit the sustainable agriculture model)
o How to purchase crops/items produced at this farm
