RUSHMOOR SCHOOLS PLUS UPDATE
Rushmoor Schools Plus in 2013
2013 is already proving to be incredibly busy for Rushmoor Schools Plus. Here’s a brief update on some of the things we’re currently working on:
· Three Summer Fundays involving more schools than ever before. The dates are – Wavell cluster (Thursday 25th April), Aldershot cluster (Thursday 23rd May) and Cove cluster (Saturday 29th June)
· The Motivating our Middle Years skills festival, set for Wednesday and Thursday 10th and 11th July for Years 6 and 7 children, at Farnborough 6th Form College
· The Rushmoor and Hart Primary Schools Sports Presentation evening on 10th July at Samuel Cody Specialist Sports College
· We’ve met with Community Matters Partnership (CMP) members, and are recruiting volunteers for aspirational talks to pupils about careers. See below too for information about the Community Minds Raising Aspirations event on 24th April
· A digital inclusion project to refurbish redundant computers in businesses and make them available for families who need them is gathering speed
· An update of our Rushmoor Families Directory
· Our bid to Arts Council England for Creative People and Places funding was unsuccessful despite praise for the bid. However, we’re meeting with Arts Council England in April to discuss other ways that we can access grassroots support and funding. We remain confident that the best parts of the bid will come to fruition, with a focus on our schools and families

Raising Aspirations in Rushmoor
Wednesday 24th April from 9.00am to 1.30pm at The Village Hotel, Pinehurst Road, Farnborough GU14 7BF. The Community Matters Partnership (CIC) is working with Rushmoor Schools Plus, Rushmoor Borough Council, First Partnership EBP and The Village Hotel to host a conference and networking event enabling local companies and organisations to meet and look at ways to work together and raise aspirations in young people.
The event is for anyone with an interest in community engagement, CSR, networking or business development. In the morning delegates will work with over 100 other local companies to look at ideas and ways that businesses can help to inspire the future workforce. In the afternoon organisations will have the opportunity to promote what it is they do via a "marketplace". Here you will be able to display a stand, network and talk with other local companies and organisations about your business, college or community project.
The conference costs £25.00 (plus VAT) per delegate for CMP non-members and includes opportunities to work together to inspire the next generation; facilitated networking; and presentations, film clips and inspirational stories from businesses and young people. A marketplace stand costs an additional £10.00 (plus VAT). Tickets can be booked at http://raisingaspirationsinrushmoor.eventbrite.co.uk/#.

Virgin London Marathon
Ten years after my last Marathon in 2003, when I swore ‘Never again!’ I’m preparing to run at this year’s Virgin London Marathon on Sunday 21st April. I’m raising money to support the fantastic work of The Gaming Zone, (www.thegamingzone.org), specifically their ‘Summer in da boro’ programme of activities, and also for Glad’s House (www.gladshouse.com), a charity run by local girl Vicky Ferguson, that gives street kids in Mombassa, Kenya a roof over their heads and routes into education and work.
If you wish to support me, my sponsorship website is at https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/tonymcgovern1 , or I have good old fashioned sponsorship forms if you bump into me. I’ve also been writing a blog, at http://tonymcgovernvlm.blogspot.co.uk so you can read about the aches and pains, trials and tribulations while I’ve been training. I’m counting on a happy ending!! The training is tough, I’m not getting any younger, so every penny of support helps make it all worthwhile!
