Tomorrow, When the War Began

There will be TWO Essays for TWTWB (One in class and one timed)

1) Persuasive Essay

In Tomorrow, When the War Began John Marsden offers a hypothetical scenario of teenagers being the only hope for the future if Australia was invaded by another country. Is his message hopeful or not?

Persuasively explain and support your main ideas (arguments) and link to a clear contention. Use TEEL and include quotes. (800-1000 words)

2) Analytical Essay (Discursive)

What are the main themes in Tomorrow, When the War Began?

Your essay should logically build as a discussion, with each idea naturally leading to the next. Use TEEL structure and the characters, events and ideas in the novel to support what you believe to be important.

Both essays should display…

Introduction – establishes context, details what you are discussing, addresses topic, makes contention clear and previews what will be discussed

Body Paragraphs (at least THREE) – Use TEEL, have clear topic sentences, explain properly, contain key quotes (Phrases, dialogue) and references to text, link coherent to main topic

Conclusion – Revisits topic, reminds what has been discussed and evaluates the purpose of the discussion (why these ideas are significant or meaningful for the reader)
