Mrs. Gunning and Mrs. Irrgang

Dear Parents,

This week we learned about our state, country and national symbols. Mrs.Irrgang’s group read about Georgia. They completed a map of the USA and should be able to identify Georgia on the map. Mrs.Gunning’s group read about the American flag and wrote facts and opinions. The children are learning to use Word to insert a picture and write a sentence about their picture. I really want to thank all the parents for helping the children with their computer homework. The children who have been practicing their Kinderkeys homework, had no trouble opening Word, typing in their sentence with spaces and capitals and inserting a picture. YEAH! The children learned about American symbols at the listening center and completed their American symbols books.

The children should know:

The names of the coins and dollar.

Our town is Marietta.

Our state is Georgia. (not Marietta)

Our country is the United States of America. (not Georgia)

We show that we love our country when we say the pledge.

They should know that the flag, bald eagle, liberty bell and statue of liberty are American symbols.

Homework:

· Have your child read their American symbols book to you before putting it in their book box.

· Please do not forget RAZ kids reading.

· Now that your children know how to access pictures on WORD, you may want to set up some ground rules for printing at home. At school, they must write at least one sentence to go with their picture…and size their picture to be small.

· Thank you for helping the children learn their address and phone number.
