JOB DESCRIPTION

Post Title: Dyslexia Support Teacher

Scale: Spine Point 1-P3

Responsible To: Director Student & Staff Learning

Job Purpose

To be committed to providing high quality, student centred learning that will ensure success. To be innovative and reflective, with a genuine interest in young people and how they learn.

Specific Duties

1. To play a lead role in developing and delivering support for students with dyslexia in partnership with colleagues in the Learning Support Team and teaching staff.

2. To work across college and across curriculum areas.

3. To co-ordinate dyslexia assessments including those for exam concessions and liaise with the Examinations Officer.

4. To develop individual support plans for dyslexic students.

5. To plan, prepare and deliver dyslexia support group sessions and learning materials/ resources.

6. To liaise with tutors and teachers regarding the progress of individual students and complete progress reviews, attending interviews as appropriate.

7. To keep accurate records of workshops/ group sessions.

8. To maintain a database of the assistive technology and its deployment to dyslexic students.

9. To develop and make available resources to support teaching and learning of dyslexic students.

10. To contribute to the upkeep of a safe and constructive working environment in the dyslexia base room and the skills centre.

11. To keep up to date with developments relating to dyslexia and undertake training.

General Teaching Duties

1. To take part in parents’ evenings, review interviews and other meetings as required.

2. To take part in reviews of the Learning support Team and student evaluations.

3.  To take part in Learning Support and other curriculum training and development activities.

4.  To cover for colleagues as required.

5.  To develop and implement teaching and learning strategies in line with BSix policy.

6.  To observe the requirements of college policy including the college mission, health 7 safety, equal opportunities and student academic performance procedures.

7.  To undertake other duties as allocated by the Principal which may reasonably be expected to fall within the scope and level of the post.

College Responsibilities

1.  To act as a personal tutor to a group of students.

2.  To represent the college at meetings as directed.

3.  To work with colleagues in support of college policies and initiatives.

4.  To participate in the college appraisal process

5.  To participate in inspections and self-assessment

6.  As part of your role you have a direct responsibility for ensuring equality of opportunity within the college as well as the health and safety of students, staff and visitors. As part of that responsibility you may be required to participate in training and be involved in undertaking risk assessments.
