The SCCT fall workshop is a nine (9) week, tuition based program, which provides its participants with instruction as it relates to the performing arts. It is designed for those students who show a desire to expand their theatrical education. Each class is designed to be age specific and will provide the student with a deeper understanding of performance art. It will also prepare the young actor for an audition with an emphasis on how to present oneself in a confident and positive manner as they audition for future SCCT, school and community based productions.

Classes are held at the SCCT Studio, (Unless otherwise announced) 680 Purchase Street, New Bedford, next door to The Zeiterion Performing Arts Center.

Classes are $75.00 per student and are filled on a first come first serve basis.

Classes are held on Saturdays beginning September 16th through November 18th. There will be a performance for immediate family members on November 18th. There are no classes held on Columbus Day weekend.

Introduction to Acting:

9-10:30 AM Open to children grades 1-3.

An introductory class for beginning students to explore the basics of acting, improvisation, theatre terminology and role playing. Students will focus on new ways to use their voice and body as they learn techniques for the stage. Even if you have been on stage before, this class will enlighten and expand the participants acting ability on stage. The end result will be a workshop production of the play “The Lost Christmas Cards”.

Student Acting:

10:40 -12:10 PM Open to children grades 3-8. Younger Children who have completed Introduction to Acting may take this class.

This workshop takes a focuses on acting, character development, blocking and line memorization as the actor auditions and rehearses a one act play. This class will build on creating stage presentation confidence, developing and understanding a character as it is presented to an audience. This class is a must for those who want to work towards becoming a better actor.

The Musical Workshop: Preparing for Mary Poppins

12:30 – 2:00 PM Open to children grades 3-8.

This workshop will focus on learning and developing an English and Cockney dialect. If a child is fortunate enough to be cast in our production of Mary Poppins, it will be necessary for the young actors and actresses to speak in Proper British and Cockney dialects. Each child will be taught the basics of each dialect and be required to memorize and recite a monologue and/or scenes using both accents. (Participation in this class does not ensure a student a part in our spring production of Mary Poppins.)
