Letter to members who are still in the area:

The Presbyterian Church USA has four different categories of membership to meet the needs of its people.

v The first category recognizes children who are baptized.

v The second category is for persons who temporarily relocate; this category allows an individual to maintain his or her membership at his or her home church while becoming an affiliate member with another church family.

v The third classification is for adult members who have made a profession of faith. This enables an individual to participate in the full work and worship life of the congregation.

v The fourth category is for individuals who have geographically moved away from a congregation or who find themselves in a season of life where they are unable for any reason to participate in the work and worship of a congregation; yet, desire to maintain their fellowship with a particular church body. This allows the person to participate in the life of a congregation; however, recognizes that it is unlikely that he or she would hold office or be present at congregational meetings.

It is very easy to move between the last two categories. If a member’s circumstances change enabling him or her to be active in the full work and worship of the congregation he or she may simply request being transferred back to his or her original status – category 3. Both categories acknowledge that a person is a member of a particular church, in this case Hope Presbyterian Church.

The Session must request your permission to shift you from the third category to the fourth. Please return the enclosed postcard by November 1, 2007. Thank you for your assistance.
