The MP Corps

Regimental Hall of Fame

….

By Col (Ret) Pat Lowrey, Digest Editor

In a recent memo, Colonel Wade Dennis, Acting Commandant, USAMPS advises the RMPO “Community” that nominations for the US Army Military Police Corps Regimental Hall of Fame are solicited. The submission date for considerations in CY 2010 is no later than 7 May 2010.

Forward nomination packets to: Chief of Military Police, US Army Military Police School, ATSJS (ATTN: Beckie Higeons), 401 MANSCEN Loop, Suite 1058, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri 65473-8926

All Commissioned Officers, Warrant Officers, Enlisted Soldiers, or Professional Civilians who have served or supported an active or reserve component MP unit are eligible. Nominees must have terminated government service for a minimum of two years (24 months). Among other requirements, nomination packets must include a career biography and narrative citing accomplishments and impact on the Army and the Military Police Corps. Detailed, self explanatory instructions are contained in US Army MP Corps Regimental Regulation 870-1, dated 15 February 2010 (Click here).

The U.S. Army MP Corps Regimental Hall of Fame was established in 1992 to honor individuals who have achieved exceptional contributions to the MP Corps. From hundreds of nominations since 1992, fifty three (53) individuals have been selected for induction thus far. These fifty comprise a broad range of years on active duty (beginning 1897) and include 10 major generals, 8 brigadier generals, 17 colonels, two majors, three chief warrant officers, nine command sergeant majors, one sergeant major, one first sergeant and two civilians (both retired from active duty as CWO).

A board is convened and completes the selection process. This new and very informative regulation prescribes the make-up of each board and the scoring process. Nominations are automatically considered by boards for three years. The nomination packet requires much research and detailed knowledge of a nominee’s career. This is especially difficult if the nominee is deceased. Those considering a nomination of a distinguished colleague should review closely all of the requirements specified in the brand new US Army Regimental Regulation 870-1. (http://RMPO.org).

In June 2009, I was honored to be a member of the 2009 Hall of Fame Selection Board. It was apparent that proceedings were extremely fair, balanced and conducted in a professional manner and clearly protects the integrity of the entire program. For me, it was truly an honor to study the detailed accounts of prestigious Military Police professionals and assist in evaluating their high impact service and contributions to the Corps and the Army.

Routinely, the distinguished service of selectees is formally recognized at an Induction Ceremony at Fort Leonard Wood during September’s MP Regimental Week activities. After formal induction and presentation of documentation and award medallion at a special luncheon, the honorees photos will be placed in the permanent Hall of Fame display at the Military Police Museum.
