The Cody G. Richardson Memorial Scholarship
The Cody G. Richardson Memorial Scholarship is an annual scholarship awarding $1, 000 and $1,500 to 2014 graduating seniors of Cecil and Harford County High Schools, who are formally participating in a team running sport or soccer and have applied/or have been accepted to an accredited College or University.

Guidelines:
Scholarship applicants must:
1. Be a high school track and field, cross country or soccer athlete as of date of application.
2. Have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 (weighted).
3. Be a graduating Cecil or Harford County high school senior accepted to an accredited
college or university and the affiliated athletic program.
4. Submit a completed application along with supporting materials that include:
• Worthiness Essay: This Essay should state clearly why you feel you are worthy of the Cody G. Richardson
Memorial Scholarship and should include as many of the elements listed below as possible. This narrative should
be double-spaced and not exceed three pages in length. This narrative, written by the applicant, is weighed very
heavily in the selection process (see the following elements)
- Outline challenges or obstacles you have overcome in your life to reach your goals.
- Who were role models in your life and how did they influence your outlook or the paths you have chosen?
- How do you feel being physically your best influences other aspects of your life?
- Your athletic accomplishments, career plans, high school and community activities and any other life
experience that may distinguish you as an applicant.
• Transcript of high school credits up to and including current semester.
• Two (2) letters of recommendation from political, organizational, civic, community or clergy leaders, school
administrator / faculty or other note worthy individuals that can attest to your character.
• Copy(s) of the letter(s) of acceptance to an accredited college.
The one-time $1,500 or $1,000 scholarship is paid directly to the recipient or to the accepting college financial office. Recipients must submit evidence of acceptance and enrollment in an accredited college or university before payment is provided. The award is to provide financial assistance to the recipient in his/her pursuit of an undergraduate degree at an accredited college or university. The scholarship money is for the student’s tuition, fees, books, supplies, laboratory fees and equipment. The awards constitute qualified scholarships. If tax liability arises, it will be the sole responsibility of the recipient. Please consult your tax advisor.
Selection criteria:
1. Currently competes in Track & Field, Cross Country or soccer with plans on competing at the college level.
2. The ability to be a good role model and to be aware of the impact she/he has on others.
3. A set of personal ethics and values upon which she/he consistently acts.
4. Open-minded, energetic and approachable to others.
