AT THE UNIVERSITY OF LOUISVILLE

Authored by: Alexandra Farrell

BACKGROUND

Reverb, a nonprofit organization founded in 2004 by Lauren Sullivan and her husband Adam Gardner of Guster, describes itself as “deeply rooted within the music and environmental communities. Reverb educates and engages musicians and their fans to take action toward a more sustainable future.” The organization has partnered with a wide assortment of artists from John Mayer to Wiz Khalifa, and its sponsors include Silk, Ben and Jerry’s, and Brita. Of particular to concern to the university population is Reverb’s Campus Consciousness Tour, which began in 2006 with Guster as the headliner. The tour travels throughout the country, stopping at college campuses to assemble its eco-village and educate fans about environmental issues. The eco-village features giveaways such as reusable water bottles and provides fans with opportunities to take an interest in sustainability in their own communities.

Since 2006, the Campus Consciousness Tour has reached more than 1 million students at 90 colleges and universities. Concert attendance ranges from 2,500 to 12,000 students per concert. The entire history of past headliners includes: Guster, O.A.R., Ben Harper & Relentless7, Drake, Passion Pit, Wiz Khalifa, and Janelle Monae. J. Cole will join their ranks this spring as the headliner for the 2012 Campus Consciousness Tour.
