122 Geometry

Course Description: This course emphasizes the development of reasoning and concise creative thinking. Students use what they learn about lines, triangles, polygons, and circles to solve numerical and algebraic-geometric problems. The study of right triangle trigonometry is included in this course. Computer applications, including the TI-84 graphing calculator is required.

Course Objectives: Students will:

· Learn the basic terminology and use the tools of geometry.

· Be introduced to and develop logical reasoning.

· Discover properties of lines, triangles, polygons and circles.

· Explore similarity of polygons using ratios and proportions.

· Master a variety of applications for the Pythagorean Theorem.

· Utilize right triangle trigonometry to solve an assortment of problems.

· Apply concepts of area and volume.

· Become competent using the graphing calculator.
