Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership – Policy Focus Fall Semester 2017

The College of Education at Texas Tech University is comprised of the Department of Educational Psychology & Leadership, the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, and the Department of Teacher Education. The College of Education houses 11 graduate programs that prepare both applied and basic researchers who possess the skills to work with diverse populations. Texas Tech University, a member of the Big 12 Conference, is located in Lubbock, Texas (population 260,000). Texas Tech University is a comprehensive research university with an enrollment of over 36,000, and is the only campus in Texas where both the law school and medical school (part of Texas Tech University’s Health Sciences Center) are housed at the same location. The University has a wide range of undergraduate and graduate accredited programs including CAEP in the College of Education.
Texas Tech University seeks an assistant professor of Educational Leadership (EDLD) with a policy focus for an academic year tenure-track position with a position starting date of August 2017. The EDLD program is seeking an established educational policy researcher to join a productive faculty team of scholar activists across the College of Education in implementing a recently approved and one-of-a-kind-in-Texas distance delivered Ph.D. program focusing on P-20 educational policy and reform. The EDLD program is particularly interested in attracting an individual with strong interests and experiences in collaborative efforts involving multiple disciplinary programs.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have:
(1) completed doctorate in Educational Leadership, Higher Education or a related field with a policy focus;
(2) P-20 teaching / administrative experience and/or experience working in the policy arena (e.g., federal, state or local government, policy think tank or non-profit organization);
(3) distinguished track-record of college-level teaching (appropriate to rank of the position);
(4) demonstrated ability to contribute to in-depth school-university collaborations;
(5) demonstrated track-record of conducting meaningful research in educational policy and/or educational program evaluation;
(6) a demonstrated track-record of obtaining external funding; and
(7) a commitment to serving diverse, high-need populations.
Preference will be given to candidates with strong teaching credentials and public school experiences, demonstrated ability to conduct research with and in schools that result in positive and measurable student outcomes, grant experience, and graduate online teaching experience. Experience working with diverse student populations and first generation students is highly desirable.
Responsibilities
1. Actively collaborate with faculty to implement a new P-20 educational policy and reform Ph.D.
curriculum;
2. Teach distance-delivered graduate educational leadership courses in the PhD program that focus on educational policy, policy implementation, and influencing reform in a political environment;
3. Conduct research that meaningfully contributes to the field;
4. Supervise graduate student policy research and practice in a manner that promotes their
synthesis;
5. Recruit, advise, and mentor doctoral students;
6. Apply for and manage external funding to support policy-focused research and the improvement of practice;
7. Contribute to the advancement of specialization and program goals through service; and
8. Partner with schools and/or agencies to ensure meaningful collaborative research, teaching, and practice.
9. Service duties include program building, as well as commitment to extra-curricular activities. Service to the department, college, and university is expected.
