Counselor’s Corner

Texas Tech Summer Institute

A representative from Texas Tech will be in the Counseling Office on March 18 at 9:45. At this time, he will be available to talk to students interested in attending the Texas Tech Summer Institute. Interested students must sign up in the counseling office.

University of the Southwest

Representatives from USW will be in the Counseling Office on March 27 at 10:00. At this time, they will be available to talk to juniors and seniors interested in attending USW. Interested students must sign up in the counseling office.

Awards and Scholarships

Any HHS Senior who has received an award or scholarship should notify Mr. Ayers in the Counseling Office by April 27. Students should notify Mr. Ayers even if they do not plan to use the scholarship.

Fees and Fines

HHS students need to pay all fees and library fines as soon as possible. This is especially important for seniors as no transcripts can be sent or diplomas issued until fees and fines are paid. Class fees may be paid in the HHS business office and library fines may be paid in the HHS library.

Estacado Federal Credit Union Scholarship

One non-renewable scholarship is available in the amount of $500. This will be subject to confirmation that the requirements of grade point and enrollment have been met. To be eligible, students must be a Hobbs High School graduating senior with a minimum 3.0 GPA; provide a copy of their most recent transcript; must be of good character as evidence by at least one letter of recommendation. Applications are due no later than May 1.

Ralph and Toadie Clarke Citizenship Award

The nomination forms for the Ralph and Toadie Clarke Citizenship Award are available in the counseling office. This is a prestigious award, and requirements include: outstanding moral character, GPA of 90 or better and top 10% of graduating class, outstanding citizenship and service to school and community. Deadline for nominations by an educator or administrator is Friday, April 10, 2015.

American Heart Scholarship

Applications for the American Heart Scholarship are available in the counseling office. The deadline to apply is April 10. Applicants must have received notification of acceptance to an accredited college or university.

Dr. Reddy Scholarship

Applications for the Dr. Reddy Scholarship are available in the counseling office. The deadline to apply is April 10.

Texaco Star Challenge Academic Scholarship

Applications for the Texaco Star Challenge Academic Scholarship are available in the counseling office. The deadline to apply is April 10.

The Ralph Tasker Scholarships

Applications for the Ralph Tasker Scholarship are available in the counseling office. The deadline to apply is April 10.

Scholarship Opportunities

Numerous scholarships are available for high school seniors. Students who create profiles on Scholarshipexperts.com, CAPPEX.com, and FastWeb.com will have scholarships that they qualify for e-mailed directly to them. If you have not already done so, take the time today to create a profile. Many scholarships are also available from Big Future. Google Big Future today to search for over $6 million worth of scholarships.

Beth Gann Scholarship

We are pleased to announce that scholarship applications are available for the Beth Gann Scholarship. This is available only to young women of Lea County who rank in the top 25% of their class, are graduating from high school this May, and will be attending an accredited junior college or university in the fall of this year. Applications are due March 31. Applications are available in the HHS Counseling Office.

Ethan Lee Scholarship

The Ethan Lee Scholarship application is available in the Counseling Office. It will be awarded to a Hobbs High School senior with a minimum 2.9 GPA. Applications must be turned in by May 15.

Camp L.E.A.D

Camp L.E.A.D. application for this summer is now open! Each student that applies must be a rising high school senior (graduating high school in 2016). The application is fully online and can be access from www.camplead.ttu.edu and click on “Apply”. If you do not have a RaiderConnect account, you will need to create one. Camp is free to all students that are selected. The application deadline is 5:00 on Wednesday, April 8.

2015 Student-View Scholarship Program

The 2015 Student-View Scholarship Program is offering $10,000 worth of scholarships to high school seniors who plan to attend a four-year college, community/junior college or career school. The program includes: one $4,000 scholarship, two $1,000 scholarships, and eight $500 scholarships. It’s quick and easy to apply. Simply log on to www.student-view.com and complete a 15-20 minute application survey about colleges in your area. The scholarship will be awarded via a random drawing of all completed applications. The scholarship winners will be announced in May. Don’t wait. The scholarship deadline is April 22, 2015.

Hobbs Quarterback Club

The Hobbs Quarterback Club is extremely proud of our football program and the contribution that each team member makes. The hard work and time spent does not go unnoticed. We are fortunate to be in a position to offer our seniors an opportunity to apply for scholarships that can help them further their education. Applications are available in the counseling office. All applications need to be turned in to the counseling office no later than Friday, April 3.

New Mexico Junior College Foundation Scholarships

The NMJC College Foundation offers scholarships to students attending NMJC. For more information and to download applications go to http://www.nmjc.edu/studentservices/financialaid/scholarshipsandgrants.aspx.

2015 Hamilton Award

Apply today for the 2015 Hamilton Award. The online application can be found at www.hamiltonfriends.org/apply. A Hamilton Award Winner is a college bound junior in high school, has a strong record of community service, is a self-starter, has financial need, shows a strong commitment to their academic studies, is committed to participating in the Hamilton Leaders academy.

New Mexico Federation of Republican Women 2015 Scholarship

It is with great pleasure that the New Mexico Federation of Republican Women distribute copies of their scholarship application to be awarded in May 2014. The scholarship is available to female republican seniors who are a resident of New Mexico, a registered Republican or the daughter of a registered Republican if under the age of 18, a member of the graduating class and accepted in an institution of higher learning in New Mexico. Applications are available in the Counseling Office. The application is due March 15.

Albuquerque Foundation Scholarships

Who doesn’t need help going to college? We offer $150,000 in scholarships. Each of our 18 scholarship programs were established by a donor with individual interests and priority areas. Hamilton Relay Scholarship

As the Telecommunications Relay and Captioned Telephone service provider for the State of New Mexico, Hamilton Relay acknowledges that opportunities for higher education affect the future of New Mexico’s high school students. We are pleased to once again extend the Hamilton Relay Scholarship opportunity to graduating high school students in New Mexico who are deaf, hard of hearing, deaf-blind, or have difficulty speaking to assist in their goals of continuing their education. The scholarship deadline is March 2 and applications must be received or postmarked by this date. The scholarship is in the amount of $500 and the winner will be determined on or before April 30. Applications are available in the counseling office.

Reminders

·  The ACT will be given on April 18. The registration deadline is March 13. To sign up, please visit www.ACTStudent.org

·  Students who need letters of recommendation should deliver them to the recommender at least 2 weeks before the deadline.

·  Regardless of income, all families should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) after January 1 for each academic year because most aid requires it. For more tips and details on the financial aid process visit www.wellsfargo.com/fivesteps.

March tasks for high school seniors

·  Check with the financial aid offices to ensure your paperwork is complete. Submit tax forms if they request them.
