Returning Student Scholarship Requirements

The information provided is to be used by the 2017-2018 Texas A&M University Aggie Mothers’ Club of El Paso Scholarship Committee for the sole purpose of selecting returning students for Club scholarship funds for the 2017-2018 school year.

1. The candidate shall be a current, full-time student enrolled in at least 12 semester hours (or at least 9 hours if a graduate student) at Texas A&M University (College Station or Galveston campus) and shall be classified as a sophomore, junior, or senior or Graduate Student in good standing during the 2017 – 2018 academic year. The candidate shall have a minimum overall GPA of 2.0. (graduate students must have a overall GPA of 3.0 to be in good standing).

A. Exceptions

1) Graduating Seniors who are in their final semester at Texas A&M University will be eligible if the student is taking a minimum of 9 hours in order to complete their degree.

2) Students who are completing an internship approved by Texas A&M University will be eligible for the scholarship. Students will be required to show proof of such internship in writing

B. Brenda Willmarth Scholarship. The El Paso Aggie moms are pleased to announce the Brenda Willmarth scholarship for the 2017-2018 school year. This will be awarded to the Senior returning student applicant with the highest cumulative GPA as verified by the student’s Spring 2016 transcript (GPA must be 3.4 or higher for this award). If no Senior student meets the above criteria, the award would be given to the Junior applicant with the highest GPA of 3.4 or greater. (Please note that this is an additional scholarship to the ones already provided by Texas A&M University Aggie Mothers’ Club of El Paso).

2. The student’s permanent residential (home) address must be in El Paso County as of the application deadline of June 30, 2017.

3. The scholarship award is a fixed amount determined by the Scholarship Committee and is to be applied to normal tuition and fees. The scholarship will be paid through Student Financial Aid Department at Texas A&M University. The current scholarship amount is $500 per academic year, to be split evenly between the fall and spring semesters.

4. The duration of the scholarship is for the 2017 - 2018 academic year. At the end of the Fall 2017 semester, scholarship recipients will be required to submit a transcript and Spring 2018 schedule in order to verify that they meet the scholarship requirements for the Spring, 2017 semester. Unofficial transcripts and schedules printed from the Howdy portal are acceptable.

5. In one envelope, send the completed application, a copy of the applicant’s transcript, which includes Spring, 2017 grades and a copy of the applicant’s Fall, 2018 schedule to the address below. Unofficial transcripts and schedules printed from the Howdy portal are acceptable. It must be postmarked on or before June 1, 2017 or the application will not be eligible for consideration. 6. An acknowledgement will be sent to you by email within seven days after the committee receives your completed application, transcript and fall schedule. If you do not receive such confirmation, it is your responsibility to contact the committee chair Pam Taggart at to resend the application. Note that this must be accomplished within the June 1, 2017 deadline. Applications postmarked after this date will not be considered. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

7. The successful scholarship winner(s) will be notified in late June.

8. The Scholarship Committee shall hold all information provided herein confidential.

9. The candidate specifically authorizes the Texas A&M Aggie Mothers’ Club of El Paso Scholarship Committee to substantiate any data provided herein.
