March 26th 2012

Dear Director,

In every field of activity and perhaps in that of theatre above all else, we are currently going through difficult financial times. However, life must take carry its natural course. For this reason, two important international organizations, namely the UNESCO Chair of the International Theatre Institute and the Global Alliance of Theatre Schools (GATS[(]) – SCHEDULED some of their most important events of 2012 jointly.

In the context of the world economic crisis, we thought it would be wise and necessary to rationalize expenses and propose to theatre schools worldwide participation in 2012 in no less than 7 distinct events organized however in the same time frame and in the same location – Sinaia and Bucharest, ROMANIA (3-12 September 2012).

We can thus offer participants the chance of a single travel and participation expense for a variety of projects that would otherwise have to be organized in different places and at different times.

The seven events in question would be the following:

(1)  World Festival of Theatre Schools [the previous editions were held in: 2010 – Lima & Cusco (PERU); 2008 – Barcelona (SPAIN); 2006 – Manila (PHILIPPINES); 2004 – Tampico (MEXICO); 2002 – Athens (GREECE)]

(2)  World Conference of Theatre School Directors

(3)  UNESCO/ITI Chair Regional Conference for Theatre School Directors from EUROPE

(4)  UNESCO/ITI Chair Regional Conference for Theatre School Directors from ASIA-PACIFIC

(5)  UNESCO/ITI Chair Regional Conference for Theatre School Directors from SOUTH AMERICA & MEXICO-CENTRAL AMERICA and CARIBBEAN

Departure of participants

The theme of the performances to be presented in the World Festival is EXODUS (this theme was chosen by the World Conference of Theatre School Directors in Lima, PERU, in 2010). Due to the late date of announcement of the festival, exceptionally we can accept performances to be presented on another theme than the one officially announced. The duration of all performances presented within the Festival should not exceed 50 minutes and they should have 4 students in the cast of actors.

Financial terms

The participation fee includes: hotel accommodation (single room), full board (breakfast, lunch and dinner), free transfers to and from the International Airport in Bucharest (21 km x 2 rides), transfers to Sinaia, Bran, Brasov and back to Bucharest (a total of 500 km), city tour in Bucharest, free entry to all museums and cultural locations included in the program.

*

(c) 750 EUR Participation fee for an Observer with student status (accommodation in triple rooms) and with all facilities mentioned above at point (b).

The deadline for sending the Application Charts and the 50% down payment is May 25th 2012.

The remaining 50% shall be paid cash in Bucharest upon arrival.

DISCOUNT!! Participants or delegations that choose to pay the participation fee in full by May 25th 2012 shall receive a 10% discount on the full amount, namely 135 EUR for individual participations, 390 EUR for delegations and 75 EUR for extra-students.

Note: In the case of payments made through bank transfer, all bank commissions will be handled by the participant.

We would like to assure you, dear friends, that we have made tremendous efforts to keep the participation fees at a minimum level, as they were four years ago at the 2008 edition organized in Barcelona (Spain), a year as we all remember, yet unshaken by the economic crisis and moreover one in which a lot of the local payments such as those for transportation and cultural-visitation programs were paid by the participants themselves.

We hope that by bringing together the 7 projects mentioned in this Invitation Letter, in the same time frame (3-12 September 2012) will give your school some financial relief and hopefully it will honor us with a positive answer from your part in terms of participation.

We will look forward to your response before May 25th 2012.

Yours sincerely,

Prof. Corneliu DUMITRIU, PhD

Chairholder, UNESCO/ITI Chair
