Talking Points for Department Meetings

1. On January 5, 2015, the University of Chicago will begin implementing a new HR and payroll system named Workday@UChicago.

2. The new system will begin to replace our current HR and payroll systems and paper-based processes, many of which are outdated and inefficient.

3. Workday is a modern, cloud-based HR Information System (HRIS) being used at other higher education and research institutions. Yale University, Brown University, Argonne National Lab and Fermilab are a few that have either signed with or already implemented Workday.

4. In its first phase, Workday will replace Employee Self-Service and many common faculty, staff and student employment, benefits and payroll forms.

5. In future phases, UChicago Time and UChicago Jobs will also be replaced by Workday.

6. Starting January 5, all new and current faculty, staff, other academic appointees, and temporary and student workers will use Workday to access personal, payroll, and benefits information (if applicable).

7. In addition, HR and payroll teams will use Workday to perform basic “hire to retire” HR and payroll functions and view employment data. For example, hiring a new staff member or giving someone a promotion will be done in Workday, and not through paper forms.

8. Quick reference guides and videos will be available.

9. There will be a number to call if you have questions.
