2014 – 2015 Rules, Expectations, and Grading Policy

Welcome back to a brand new school year! In order to make this year as productive, educational, and fun as possible, the following is an outline of basic course expectations and grading criteria.

COURSE OVERVIEW:

This course is designed to bridge the gap between Algebra 2 & Trigonometry and AP Calculus. Several of the topics introduced in Algebra 2 & Trigonometry will be reviewed in greater depth. An introduction to several Calculus topics will be covered in this course. After successful completion of this course you will be prepared to take either AP Calculus AB or AP Calculus BC.

SUPPLIES:

Every student must have the following EVERY Day:

· Large 3-Ring binder and notebook paper.

· Graphing Calculator

Students will make extensive use of the TI-84 calculator. They need to have it with them EVERY DAY. They will use their laptops extensively: to complete assignments, homework and to take quizzes.

· Pencil

· Laptop (Charged)

ATTENDANCE:

Daily and timely attendance is required.

· Students are expected to be in their seat when the bell rings.

· My school website will have class notes and assignments. There is no excuse for not checking what is assigned. Absent students are expected to use this site to keep up with what's going on in class.

· Tests and quizzes will be taken on the day the student returns to school unless the absence has been extensive.

· All work, homework, and tests or quizzes missed due to an ILLEGAL ABSENCE CANNOT BE MADE UP!

HOMEWORK:

· Homework will be assigned on a daily basis.

· On WebAssign homework, students usually have three opportunities to answer each question. They are encouraged to work collaboratively on these assignments and can also get help after school.

TESTS & QUIZZES:

· You will be notified of all Tests ahead of time.

· Quizzes will be given more frequently.

CLASS PARTICIPATION:

· Everyone will start off with a 100. Every time students are late (unexcused) to class, are unprepared, or are off task 5 points will be deducted.

GRADING POLICY:

Tests – 40%

Quizzes – 25% Homework – 25% Participation – 10%

EXTRA HELP:

Extra help will be Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:20 – 3:05pm in Room 116. If you show up late you MUST have a pass.

LAPTOPS:

· Laptops are to be left off/closed unless instructed to use them. Make sure they are charged.

· If laptops are not being used, they are to be left underneath your desk.

· You are only allowed to use your laptops for the work assigned in my class.

CELL PHONES:

· Please respect your classmates and myself. Cell phones are not permitted in the classroom.

· If your cell phone is out or goes off it will be sent to the office.
