SUSAN LYNN WOODLEE
Warren County native Susan Lynn Woodlee, retired Lt. Col. USAF, born Nov. 19, 1954 – died Sept.21, 2008 after an extended illness.
She was preceded in death by her father, Wallace Reid Woodlee, grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. W.C. Woodlee and Mr. & Mrs. H. B. Stiles, stepbrother, Patrick Parks, and several much loved aunts & uncles. She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Aric Johnson of Oklahoma City, OK, her mother & stepfather, Betty & Harry Preston of Crossville, sister, Cindy (Mark) Huth of Chattanooga, brother, Dusty (Kim) Woodlee of Orlando, FL, stepmother, Marcelene Woodlee, stepchildren, Greg, Toren and Lisa Johnson, stepsisters, Debbie (Ernie) Frankenberg, Cynthia Preston, Gerlinde (Collier) Rogers, step nephews, Michael (Talitha) Ottinger & Brock Avilas.
Lynn was a 1972 Warren County graduate, and received her Bachelor’s of Art degree in Music from Tennessee Tech in 1976. She started her career as an elementary band instructor in East Tennessee. In 1978 she joined the Air Force and qualified for officers training at Lackland Air Force Base. Her tours of duty included Homestead AFB, FL, Wallace Air Station, Philippines’, Hickam AFB, Hawaii, Willis AFB Arizona, and Nellis AFB Las Vegas. During the Gulf War, she was a Mission Crew Commander of the Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) plane. After returning, she was stationed at Tinker AFB in Oklahoma City, and then was sent to Ramstein AB in Landsthul, Germany for two years. She returned to Oklahoma City to retire and completed a Masters Degree in Human Relations at Oklahoma University.
She was in ill health for several years, succumbing to cardiac arrest at the VA Hospital in Oklahoma City.
