Job Description

Job Title Community Renewable Energy Mentor

Location Home-based, flexible

Time Commitment Up to 4 days from August-December 2011. One day attendance at Co-production Day, one day attendance at scheduled training events, and 2 mentoring sessions delivered to other community groups.

Contract status Self-employed, or by secondment, with a fee paid of £80 per day for mentoring activities plus £50 per day for 2 training days. Total maximum payment - £260.

Reporting to Project leader – Phil Beardmore, Localise West Midlands or assigned deputy

Role To take part in a co-production day to design mentor training; to attend a one-day mentor training event; to identify 2 community groups/networks with an interest in developing community owned renewable energy projects for whom you would like to act as a mentor; to engage with and act as a mentor to your 2 chosen community groups by guiding them through the process of project development towards successful implementation; to provide a short report detailing feedback on the mentoring process and how it might be improved, and feedback from your 2 chosen community groups on how they have benefited from the process; and potentially in the longer term to be a member of an ongoing network of community mentors.

Training and support Co-production day to be held in August; training day in Aug/Sept; ongoing support through LinkedIn group.

Person specification

Community background

Voluntary experience in a community based low carbon/community renewable energy project is essential.

Communication skills

Good communication skills; ability to recognise and take account of mentees’ favoured interpersonal style(s); able to use active listening, summarise and give constructive feedback.

Personal and people development

Self-motivated; committed to developing own and others’ knowledge; commitment to equal opportunities and diversity.

Leadership skills

Ability to lead others in the development of knowledge, ideas and practice.
