SUMMARY OF REQUIREMENTS
The following is a brief summary of the revised paragraphs in the Standard for Amusement And Gaming Machines, UL 22, which have a future Effective Date of May 1, 2012 and the action that may be required to determine compliance.
Paragraphs / General Subject and Comment /26.3, Exception No. 1 / This exception for secondary circuits not involving electric shock hazard has been deleted and therefore, secondary circuits supplied by non-power limited sources of supply will require additional unreliable component abnormal condition test consideration. See 41.5e), below.
Operations Impact: Review of all active ASMU Reports will be required to determine if Exception No. 1 of paragraph 26.3 was applied. In all cases where this exception was applied, the additional unreliable component fault tests specified in paragraph 41.5e) must be applied after review of applicable schematic diagrams.
Manufacturer Impact: In cases where Certification was issued based upon the application of Exception No. 1, retest of the product may be required.
41.5e) / Electronic components not located within power limited secondary circuits according to 26.3, Exception No. 2 and Exception No. 3 and/or 41.5(e)(1) or (2) are subject to the abnormal operation tests of 41.8 – 41.10. These tests include unreliable component open- and short-circuit simulation, one at a time, repeated up to two times, as determined necessary.
Operations Impact: Review of schematic diagrams (and possible consultation with the circuit designer) will serve to identify all required unreliable component fault conditions. If possible, representative testing of models within a family should be considered. Determination as to whether Exception No. 2 or No. 3 of 26.3 applies should be taken into account. If either of these Exceptions are applicable, the supplied circuits are considered “secondary circuits” and the tests of 41.5e) are not required.
Manufacturer Impact: Resubmission of products for unreliable component fault test conditions will be required. Samples supplied for testing should include spare PWB assemblies and parts as necessary.
