INTRODUCTION

The Technology Management degree program has a unique technical educational experience by combining theoretical and hands-on training. The practical thrust of the intensive Bachelor degree program is strengthened by the required internship.

Prior to graduation, Technology Management students have the opportunity to bridge the gap between theory and practice through their internship experiences. By commencement, they are well ahead of many of their counterparts in developing both successful careers and important life-long contacts.

The Internship Program offers high quality preparation and practical education to men and women preparing for the challenging careers of tomorrow’s highly technical society.

This Internship Program Manual has been developed for those individuals involved with the Bachelor of Business Administration Internship Program. It contains useful information such as a time table, glossary, and sample forms. It is to be used as a reference guide and workbook. Feel free to add any information you may need.

GENERAL INTERNSHIP INFORMATION

Requirement

Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) students are required to complete a 12-credit hour internship.

Length of Internship

This program may be completed during a fifteen-week block or broken into different segments totaling the equivalent of a fifteen-week period (600 hours).

Qualifications

Bachelor of Business Administration students must have a minimum overall GPA of 2.0 and must maintain an average GPA in all major field requirements of 2.0 to qualify for an internship. Certain required courses designated by the student’s curricular department must also be completed prior to the internship.

Application

An Internship Program Application Form is to be completed by the BBA student the semester prior to the intended internship. (See form for specific dates.)

Previous professional experience may qualify some students for partial internship credits.

Students with three or more years of professional experience in a field related to their BBA degree may petition their Department for alternatives to their twelve credits of internship.

The petitioning student will prepare and submit documentation of previous experience to their Internship Coordinator who will in turn present it to the appropriate departmental committee. If waivers are approved, the student may be granted up to six credits. The committee will determine how the entire twelve credits are to be awarded. The committee then may request one of the following alternatives to a combination thereof—partial internship, course work, or a research project.

The decision of the faculty committee can be appealed to the Department Chairperson and will be reviewed.

Intended Dates of Internships

Internships are intended to be taken during the Fall, Spring or Summer semesters.

Orientation

An orientation will be provided by each Department for their prospective interns.

Salary

Financial compensation will be determined on an individual basis by the Internship Site Cooperator and the Intern.

Evaluations

Interns, Internship Site Cooperators, and Faculty Supervisors will complete periodic evaluations. An on-site evaluation will be completed by the Faculty Supervisor at the completion of approximately one-third of the internship.

Seminars

Interns will return to campus for a mid-internship seminar. The seminar is designed to allow Interns the opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences with fellow interns, faculty, and other students. Interns will have their logs reviewed and will submit their evaluations and any assignments/reports requested by their faculty supervisor.

Grading

For purposes of grading, student interns will enroll in two courses concurrently for their Internship credit:

CAHT 480 Internship in Culinary Arts 9 credits

CAHT 485 Internship Reporting in Culinary Arts 3 credits

CITA 480 Internship in Information Technology 9 credits

CITA 485 Internship Reporting in Information Technology 3 credits

FSMA 480 Internship in Financial Services 9 credits

FSMA 485 Internship Reporting in Financial Services 3 credits

In the XXXX480 Internship course, students will receive a grade of satisfactory/unsatisfactory (S/U) based on the quality and quantity of the actual experiences gained from their Internship. The Internship Site Cooperator evaluations, the intern objective portfolio, and the intern self-evaluations will be used in determining the final grade. The Internship Site Cooperator may assist in the evaluation of the student intern’s performance. The faculty supervisor and internship coordinator will assign the final grade for this course.

In the XXXX485 Internship Reporting course, student interns will receive a letter grade (A-F) for their Internship Agreement paperwork; daily log entries while on Internship; periodic, mid-term and final self-evaluations; Internship objective portfolio; final oral presentation; and final written report. The faculty supervisor and Internship Coordinator will assign the final grade for this course.
