Evacuations

Hurricane Ivan

· Escambia County: Mandatory evacuation as of 6:00 a.m. CST Sept. 14 for Area I.

· Okaloosa County: Mandatory evacuation as of 12:00 p.m. CST Sept. 14 for Okaloosa Island, Destin, all coastal areas, substandard housing, mobile homes and campgrounds.

· Santa Rosa County: Mandatory evacuation as of 6:00 a.m. CST Sept. 14 for Navarre Beach, low-lying areas and mobile homes.

Hurricane Frances

· Suwanee County: Mandatory evacuation as of 6:00 p.m. EST today for the Three Rivers Estates, which is located in the southern portion of the county.

Curfews

· Escambia County: 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 a.m. CST is in effect until further notice

· Okaloosa County: 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. CST effective Sept. 15

· Santa Rosa County: 6:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m. CST effective Sept. 15

Educational Facilities (as of 3PM, Friday, Sept. 17)

K12 Public Schools

· Schools in 60 school districts (the most districts open at any one time since schools began closing in preparation for Hurricane Frances), all lab schools, virtual schools, and Florida School for the Deaf and Blind plan to be OPEN Monday, Sept. 20

· Schools in 7 counties plan to be CLOSED on Monday, Sept. 20: Escambia, Holmes, Okaloosa, St. Lucie (still recovering from Hurricane Frances), Santa Rosa, Walton, and Washington

· Initial reports gathered September 17 on damage caused by Hurricane Ivan to schools in the panhandle indicate:

o 7 districts have power problems: Escambia, Holmes, Liberty, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, Walton, and Washington.

o Damage to schools already reported include:

§ At least 7 schools in Santa Rosa County

§ At least 1 school each in Walton, Washington, Okaloosa, and Bay counties

§ At least 6 schools in Escambia

§ Jackson, Holmes and Gulf counties are reporting some damage but do not have specific information yet

o All panhandle counties affected by Hurricane Ivan are still conducting initial assessments.

· Of the 54 school districts that were closed following Hurricane Frances, all but one (St. Lucie) have resumed classes. The Florida Department of Education is working with the Florida Department of Health, school district, and local officials to help St. Lucie plan for re-opening.

Community Colleges

· Closed, Monday, Sept. 20: Okaloosa-Walton, and Pensacola Junior College

o Initial damage reports indicate major damage at Okaloosa-Walton Community College and Pensacola Junior College

· Chipola and Gulf Coast Community Colleges hope to resume classes on Monday, Sept. 20, final decisions will be made this weekend

State Universities

· Closed, Monday, Sept. 20: UWF (Pensacola and Fort Walton Beach campuses)

· UWF suffered major damage

o Students will likely miss more than 5 days of classes

o Numerous buildings report roof damage

o Campus has suffered flood/water damage

o All buildings at UWF are currently without power; a few have generator power

o Several buildings at UWF are likely to be rendered unusable in the short term – still assessing long-term impact of Hurricane Ivan

· FSU Panama City Campus hopes to re-open on Monday, Sept. 20 pending power restoration

o A small number of buildings at FSU-Panama City campus report roof damage, and flood/water damage
