TEACHING TECHNIQUE

“SPLIT-EAR MULTI-TASKING”
ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION
Class participants will listen to a tape providing a combination of letters, numbers and colors. Student will record what they hear.
Instructions:
Instructor will distribute the worksheet for students to record their responses.
Read the instructions to the students.
Play the tape on a “stereo” type of tape player. Note: After the first few phrases, students may give up. DO NOT LET THEM! Stop the tape and start again if needed.
When the tape exercise has ended, ask the students how they did. Most will not do well but others may. Repeat, if desired, and see if they do better.
Debrief this activity by discussing why it was done and how it relates or can be applied to real life or the job.
