3. Please list up to 5 of the most important challenges facing the University as a whole that the new President should address.

Faculty

· The mission and character of the regional campuses--and their relationship to the main campus--is changing, and the new President should be knowledgeable about that and interested in helping the regionals meet their new challenges

· Establish a fundraising enterprise that supports all of Purdue (not just WL)

· Lead Purdue in resisting societal trends toward consumerism and turning education into a business

· Address increasing state expectations with declining state appropriations

· Maintain the reputation of Purdue as a world class academic leader

Administrative/Professional

· Treating Purdue as a SYSTEM

· The new president must take a very active role in the regionals.

· Securing state funds and fund-raising

· Top heavy administration

· Relationships with policy makers in Indiana

Clerical/Service

· recognize the regional campuses as equal partners in providing students the " Purdue" educational experience.

· West Lafayette needs to share more of the money it receives with the other campuses.

· Refigure money in budget to give more to the academic side and not so much for the business side.

· Growing Enrollment through non-traditional means i.e. internet degree offerings

· State Budget Cuts

Students

· Must be sure to think of the entire University - to not forget about its other campuses

· Regional Campuses not being treated equally (campus funding, grant funding for professors' research, administrative barriers to economic development opportunities, student opportunities)

· Having the proper degrees available

· Cutting red tape when coordinating with West Layafette

· Containing the costs of education

Combined Purdue North Central (Overall Challenges)

· The President should provide a coherent vision of Purdue as a system and provide effective leadership to maximize its system-wide effectiveness.

· The President should restructure fund-raising and resource allocation to better serve Purdue as a multi-campus System.

· The President must deal effectively with State, business and other non-academic entities to ensure a healthy future for the University as true academic leader.

· The President should seek to contain the cost of education to Purdue students.

· The President should reduce the top heavy administration and bureaucratic inefficiencies and channel the savings into improved instruction.

5. Please list up to five of the most important issues in your work environment that need the new President's attention.

Faculty

· The regional campuses are accredited as masters-granting institutions, yet some (PNC especially) do not direct enough resources toward faculty for them to perform that role, with respect to teaching loads, reassigned time, and PD money.

· Neglect of leadership deficiencies on the regional campuses

· Concern about adding layers of administrators while classroom and technology facilities suffer

· Work load is continually increasing with little compensation

· a focus on academics - there has been no growth in faculty, credit hours are declining, but little being done administratively to support new academic ventures or programs

Administrative/Professional

· Understanding the needs of Regional campuses!

· Working as a system for the betterment of ALL Purdue campuses

· honesty in employee dealing

· Pay equity between all campuses; main and regional’s.

· Provide money to regional campuses for much needed infrastructure.

Clerical/Service

· need to be replacing clerks, not inventing new administrative positions. You could hire 3 clerks for the price of the one administrator.

· Inadequate, unbalanced compensation

· Under staffed

· Need for more cooperation and respect among departments on campus.

· Lack of support, financial and other of the regional campuses

Combined Purdue North Central (Work Environment Issues)

· Lack of sufficient resources and inspiring, effective leadership.

· Increasing workloads due to growing inefficiencies and administrative bloat.

· Lack of coordination and resource-sharing among the campuses.

· Insufficient support of academics

· Misplaced cuts in low-level, essential staffing; concurrent, irrational expansion of highly-paid administrative positions.

7. Please list up to five of the most important issues pertaining to your education that need the new President's attention.

PNC Students (Education)

· Having a University that does something excellent vs. many things just "fine"

· More degree options, more class choices, more steady, consistent requirements, more class availability especially evening classes.

· Better and more accessible computer resources and expanded physical facilities. I would love to graduate from PNC not Valpo-University my degree is from PNC not Valpo.

· More competent and attentive advisors, faculty and staff.

· Contain tuition, fees and book prices
