Say you are looking for information on the Pujo (Senate Banking and Currency) Committee investigation of a life insurance scandal in 1912-13, you’ll find

117 articles in the WSJ and 258 in NYT, just for a start. If you go to the CIS index and search under Historical Indexes by Subject using “Life Insurance,” you will get cites for the Money Trust investigation in 1913 that exposed huge abuses of insurance funds.

Say you are interested in industrial diseases and know there was a disease of match makers called “phossy jaw.” If you go to the New York Times and search for this keyword, you’ll get six articles. “Industrial diseases” gets a lot more. If you look under R for “Readers Guide Retrospective, you can find journal articles on phosphorous poisoning.
