INTRAMURAL 7 on 7 OUTDOOR SOCCER
Sonoma State University Intramural Policies will be applied and can be found on the website that is provided above. Schedules will now be provided for you online at www.imleagues.com. The official F.I.F.A Soccer Rule Book shall govern all rules not covered by this supplement.
SECTION 1 - THE GAME
1. GAME TIME IS FORFEIT TIME.
2. The game will be played with 7 players on the field including the goalkeeper.
3. Each team must have at least four players to start the game. For co-ed there must be at least two women in order to begin a game.
4. Roster must be filled out before the start of the game.
5. ALL COED TEAMS MUST HAVE THREE WOMEN ON THE FIELD AT ALL TIMES NOT INCLUDING THE GOALIE.
6. The offside rule DOES apply in outdoor soccer.
7. Game ball provided, but not for warm-ups.
8. Kick-offs will be an indirect kick. Should the goalie make an attempt to block the ball coming towards the goal, the ball will be legally played.
9. The fields are approximately 80 yards long and 40 yards wide.
SECTION 2 – SCORING AND TIMING
1. A goal is made when the soccer ball completely crosses the goal line.
2. A goal made by a woman will count as two goals (Men count as one).
3. Two 20-minute halves will be played in a match. If the score is tied after regulation, only during play-offs will a 5 min. sudden death extra period be played, with the first team to score declared the winner.
SECTION 3- SPORTSMANSHIP
1. In order for teams to make playoffs, teams will need to receive an overall sportsmanship rating of 3.0.
2. The following scale will be how the Intramural Sports Staff determines your rating per a game.
5 points= Excellent Conduct and Sportsmanship – Team members cooperate fully with the officials and opposing team members. The captain calmly converses with officials about rule interpretation and calls. The captain also has full control of his/her teammates.
4 points= Good Conduct and Sportsmanship – Team members verbally complain about some decisions made by the officials and/or show minor dissent but overall, the captain has control over his/her teammates. Teams that receive one yellow card or one technical will automatically receive no higher than 4 points for that game.
3 points= Average Conduct and Sportsmanship – Team displays verbal dissent towards officials and/or the opposing team. Captain exhibits minor control over his/her teammates. Teams that receive 2 yellow cards or 2 technicals will automatically receive no higher than 3 points for that game.
2 points= Poor Conduct and Sportsmanship – Teams constantly comment to the officials and/or opposing team from the playing area and/or sidelines. The team captain exhibits little or no control over teammates or himself/herself. Teams receiving three unsportsmanlike conduct penalties shall receive no higher than 2 points for that game.
1 point= Unacceptable Conduct and Sportsmanship – Team is completely uncooperative. Captain has no control over teammates and/or himself/herself. Any team causing a game to be forfeited by unsportsmanlike behavior, or receives four unsportsmanlike conduct penalties shall receive 1 point for that game. The captain of any team receiving an 1 point must make an appointment with an Intramural Administrative Staff Member before further play will be permitted. A team that has a player ejected from a contest will receive no higher than 1 point. That player must meet with the Intramural Coordinators before resuming play with their team in Intramural Sports. Should your team need to forfeit a game, your sportsmanship rating will automatically be dropped to 1 point.
SECTION 4- FOULS
A yellow or red card may be given to a player who repeats an offense or is endangering those around him/her.
A yellow card will be given to a player who attempts a slide.
1. A player receiving a yellow card must sit out for THREE minutes of playing time. The entire THREE minutes of playing time must be served regardless of the developments on the field. The player serving the penalty period CANNOT be substituted; therefore his/her team plays short-handed. The Supervisor will note the time of the infraction and release the penalized player when the penalty period has expired. A player receiving two yellow cards in a game, will equal a red card and will have to sit out for the remainder of the game. The player will then need to set up a meeting with Intramural Coordinators before resuming play in the league.
2. A player receiving a red card will sit out the remainder of the game and will not be allowed to participate in the following game. He or she will also need to meet with the Intramural Coordinators before resuming play in the league.
3. An indirect kick will be awarded if one of the following infractions occurs:
a. Playing a manner considered dangerous by the referee.
b. Charging unfairly (i.e. with the shoulder) and definitely not trying to play the ball.
c. Intentional obstructing an opponent when not within playing distance of the ball. This includes screening the goalkeeper.
d. Goalie holding the ball for longer than 7 seconds.
e. Having too many players on the field at one time.
f. Being guilty of unsportsmanlike conduct (The includes shouting at players or referee to insult her/him or distract her/him.)
g. If a goalie picks up the ball twice in a row without another player touching it.
h. If the goalie or any other player intentionally delays the game.
i. If a field player intentionally passes the ball back to their goalie and the goalie handles the ball.
4. A direct kick will be awarded if one of the following infractions occurs:
a. Kicks or attempts to kick an opponent
b. Trips an opponent
c. Jumps at an opponent
d. Charges an opponent in a violent or dangerous manner.
e. Charges an opponent from behind.
f. Strikes or attempts to strike an opponent.
g. Holds or pushes an opponent with his/her hands or with any part of his/her body.
h. Handles the ball intentionally not including the goalie in their penalty box.
i. Slides tackles in any manner.
SECTION 5 – PENALTY KICKS
1. A Penalty kick will be awarded when one of the nine fouls normally punished by a direct kick is committed in the penalty box.
2. A penalty kick may be taken by any member of the team that is out on the field when the foul was committed.
3. If the foul was committed on a woman and the penalty kick is taken by:
a. a woman the goal count as two
b. a man, the goal count as one
4. If the foul was committed on a man, all penalty kick goals count as one goal no matter who takes the kick.
5. Penalty kick will be taken from the penalty line. All players except the shooter and the goalie will stand outside the penalty box.
SECTION 6 - GOALIES
1. Goalies are allowed to use their hands in the penalty box only.
2. Goalies leaving the penalty box will be treated like any other player.
3. Goalie has possession of the ball once he/she places ONE FINGER on the ball.
4. All players must back off once the goalie has established possession of the ball.
5. A ball going behind the goal that is not kicked by the goalies team will result in a goal kick. However, if the ball is kicked by the same team as the goal, the other team will receive a corner kick.
6. Obstructing the goalie will not be allowed at any time.
7. The goalie may not slide head first into another player at any time.
8. Goalies may only switch when there is a dead ball. And must notify the referee.
SECTION 7 - SUBSTITUTIONS
1. Substitutions during the game will be allowed during throw-ins, corner kicks and indirect kicks.
2. A substitute may not go on the field until player comes completely off.
3. Subs must notify and be waived on by the official before coming on the field.
SECTION 8 - EJECTIONS
1. A player will be ejected from the game for violent conduct (i.e. serious foul play, using abusive language, or persists in misconduct after receiving a caution).
2. Ejected player will be asked to leave the playing area.
