Should We Forget?
Anzac Day is when we remember New Zealanders and Australians who fought at war. Anzac Day is on the 25th April and is a public holiday so that people can attend services to remember soldiers who died at war and the New Zealand soldiers who are fighting overseas today. I think we shouldn’t forget Anzac Day because many people lost their lives helping to defend our country against invading enemies. We should always use Anzac Day to remember those that fought in previous wars.
We should take time to honour and remember the sacrifices the soldiers made for us on the battle fields, in the air and on the sea.
Anzac Day is a day to remember the thousands of New Zealanders and Australians who lost their lives at Gallipoli while trying to occupy Turkey. They were trying to stop the Germans getting their war ships through to battle.
We should honour the soldiers for fighting in a war that should never have happened.
My great grandfather and great uncle were at Gallipoli. My nana’s dad was a spotter in the Air Force over France and my dad’s grandfather was in the Light Horse Brigade in France, in the First World War and they all survived! I wouldn’t be alive today if they had been killed. We shouldn’t forget about Anzac Day because we wouldn’t be safe in this country if it wasn’t for the men and women who fought for our freedom.
