Purpose of the Role

To manage and deliver ActionAid’s Community Fundraising Programme and to provide strategic direction, specifically engaging supporters to raise money through their schools, universities, company staff and local communities to achieve annual community fundraising targets.

To continue to grow the community fundraising programme to deliver an annual income target of £1.08 million by 2018.

The post holder will be required to work with other teams internally and external suppliers and partners to maximise all opportunities for fundraising within the Community fundraising market.

The post holder is responsible for leading a team who build and develop relationships; delivering account management and excellent supporter care for those who raise funds on ActionAid’s behalf.

The post holder leads on the engagement of volunteer fundraisers to maximise participation and funds raised and line manages three members of staff to support the delivery of ActionAid’s community and staff fundraising programme. This involves overseeing the delivery of high quality supporter care for community fundraising groups, companies, organisations and individuals who hold events and activities on our behalf.

The post holder works with the E&CE Marketing Manager to develop fundraising products and mechanisms with the aim of establishing new networks of support and to deepen existing relationships with supporters, as well as overseeing the strategic delivery of existing fundraising propositions including Live Below the Line and other DIY initiatives.

The post holder leads on the development of a digital community fundraising strategy to ensure that we offer our supporters a simple, inspiring and effective online supporter journeys.

Key tasks and responsibilities

Line Management

·  Manage the Community Fundraising Officer, Community Fundraising Manager and E&CE Account Manager (holding 1:1’s, appraisals and objective setting as appropriate) ensuring they are equipped and enabled to manage the day to day running of and develop the Community Fundraising programme and deliver against targets and organisational priorities

·  Lead a team of three to develop and engage supporters through relationship-led account management, ensuring they are motivated and have the tools they need to increase supporter retention and re-engagement

Strategy & Planning

·  Lead responsibility for plans and budgets for ActionAid’s community fundraising programme, ensuring that progress is monitored and reforecasts completed where appropriate

·  Lead responsibility for producing marketing and communications plans for community fundraising products, working closely with the E&CE Marketing Manager, the Communications, Digital, Supporter Contact and Supporter Administration teams, to co-ordinate all aspects of the supporter journey

·  Make recommendations to the Head of Team for the strategic focus of the Community Fundraising programme and benchmark ActionAid’s programme within the market place to ensure that it remains innovative and grows the supporter base

Programme Management and Development

·  Refine and develop the community fundraising programme based on insight and analysis

·  Oversee the development of ActionAid’s regional outreach programme – developing a regional fundraising presence across the UK through new groups, volunteers, companies and speakers

·  Oversee the delivery of evaluations on products and community fundraising activities. Network and monitor market trends and ensure we are adapting and innovating to maximise our fundraising impact

Supporter Acquisition

·  Oversee the development of new fundraising products and propositions, including the creation of new products for schools, university RAG groups, celebrations and weddings and the DIY proposition.

·  Act as key lead for community fundraising opportunities during emergency appeals

·  Work closely with Communications Department and other teams to enhance supporter engagement and raise awareness of ActionAid on and offline

Supporter Development

·  Work closely with colleagues in Philanthropy and Partnerships to maximise the value of staff and high value individuals fundraising relationships and identify opportunities for broadening the support of prospects

·  Ensure fundraisers are supported and encouraged in order to maximise the online and offline giving potential and are updated with any changes to fundraising best practice, charity law and brand

·  Work closely with the Supporter Contact and Administration Teams to ensure effective donor support processes and systems are in place

·  Work with the Data and Analysis Team to ensure data systems are utilised effectively to record, monitor and evaluate relationships with supporters

·  Ensure that complaints requests and queries are handled within best practice guidelines to provide an excellent supporter experience

Other

·  Act as a spokesperson for the organisation where required (e.g. supporter group workshops, volunteer recruitment events, corporate partnership meetings and pitches)

·  Ensure all community and company fundraising relationships are managed in line with UK charity law, best practice and ActionAid policy

·  Provide event support and contribute to fundraising event activities where required which may require some out of hours working.

·  The post holder may be required to accompany supporters on trips overseas and so must be willing to travel both in the UK and overseas regularly (where appropriate).

·  Undertake any reasonable tasks requested by the Head of Events & Community Engagement and contribute to other ActionAid activities as appropriate

Knowledge & Experience
Essential / Desirable
Significant experience of delivering and managing a community fundraising programme. / Experience of devising and delivering corporate fundraising plans.
Experience of devising and delivering community fundraising plans / Knowledge of digital engagement and online community building
Experience of developing, monitoring and reforecasting budgets and providing reports on performance against targets. / Experience of developing new fundraising products and propositions
Experience of line managing staff or volunteers / An understanding of international development and humanitarian relief work
Significant experience of sustaining, growing networks, motivating and supporting a wide range of diverse supporters, including company staff
Significant experience of project management and techniques
Experience of developing and delivering marketing and communications plans
Experience of managing risk and producing event risk assessments
Experience of using fundraising databases
Understanding of charity law and fundraising best practice
Skills and Abilities
Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills, including copywriting for fundraising / Negotiation and diplomacy skills
Highly organised with attention to detail and the ability to schedule work and prioritise effectively.
Able to demonstrate approachability and adaptability and a proven ability to work collaboratively
Ability to influencing and motivate, organise and co-ordinate multiple external and internal resources on an unsupervised basis
Good meeting facilitation and training skills
Ability and willingness to travel in the UK and overseas occasionally (where appropriate) and to attend events during evenings and weekends where necessary.
