1.0  Product Description

The DigiCaddie is a golf scorecard for the future. Throughout golf’s history, innovation has focused almost entirely on equipment and neglected the one area of the game most golfers are actually trying to improve, the score on the card. The DigiCaddie is designed to aid users in developing a better golf game by providing them with more information than a paper scorecard ever could.

The features of the DigiCaddie include an easy-to-use touch screen interface, a wind speed display, configurable par values for different courses and the ability to track scores for up to two players using on screen buttons or a pocket-sized remote control. The touch screen is the primary means of user input for the DigiCaddie. Using an on screen keyboard, the golfer can enter the course name and its par value for each hole, the name of each player. There is also a row of permanent buttons at the bottom of the screen that allow the user to return to the home screen or scorecard display at any time, or download their game information to their PC. The wind speed module is a separate component that connects via cable to the main unit. It has a small anemometer that transmits the wind speed to the DigiCaddie where it is displayed on the screen. The remote control has four buttons, two for each player. One button increments the score for each player, and the second decrements it, in case some strokes are unintentionally tallied.

The DigiCaddie can help struggling new golfers identify which particular courses or holes are the most challenging for them, as well as develop a feeling for how different intensities of wind can affect the golf ball in flight. It also encourages honest score keeping by actively entering strokes as they are taken, instead of trying to count them up after the hole is complete. More advanced golfers may simply enjoy tracking their game on their home PCs or the instant condition feedback that the separate wind module can provide. Users of all skill levels can enjoy the convenience of adding strokes to the scorecard using the remote and not being concerned with returning to the main unit after every swing or putt. The DigiCaddie was designed with the improvement of golfers of any skill level, no matter what their goals may be, the DigiCaddie will help them achieve them.

3.0  Product Setup Instructions

To properly use the DigiCaddie system there are a few things to keep in mind. First, the battery must be charged fully in order to keep the game data intact. To do this, first remove the battery from the back of the unit. To access the back of the unit, use a Phillips screwdriver and remove each of the screws holding the back panel. Place the battery in the charger, the charging light will turn on and it will charge until the charging light turns off. When the battery is completely charged, remove it from the charging apparatus. If the battery pack is warm to the touch, it is important to let it cool before plugging it back into the unit. Make sure to match the red and black wires accordingly. If wind speed is to be monitored, be sure to plug in the wind speed module with the included 1/8” stereo cable. Place the wind speed module in a clear area to ensure proper wind measurement. Good locations for the module are on the top of golf cart, on top of a golf bag, or even on a hat on top of the head. Wherever the wind module is to be placed, make sure that the cable will not be unplugged during use. Before using the DigiCaddie, be sure to properly secure it to a golf bag or cart so that it will not bounce and damage the internal components. When everything is properly attached, the unit can be turned on using the power switch located at the top of the unit. To use the scorecard downloading software, it must be transferred from the included CD and placed on the desktop. A COM cable must be attached to COM1 port of a computer. Be sure to attach the male end of the cable to the DigiCaddie system.

4.0  Product Use Instructions

4.1 Interacting With the Touch Screen

The DigiCaddie uses a very sensitive and accurate touch screen. Either a stylus or the tip of a finger is sufficient to properly activate areas on the screen. It is important to push the screen with moderate force to ensure an accurate reading. There are two main areas for input, the dynamic main area of the screen and the static navigation buttons at the bottom of the display.

The Home Screen

When the product is properly setup and the unit is turned on the user will first be resented with the HOME screen. This is where the golf game can be set up. Course, match type player1 name, and player2 name can be entered from this screen.

Course Informaton

To enter the course information, touch the “Course Name” button. The built-in keyboard will open to enter the course name. Touch corresponding letters of the name of the course up to 10 characters. DEL will delete a character and SPC will add a space. When the course name is finished push OK to enter the Par Editor screen or press the Home navigation button to skip the par editor.

4.2 Par Editor

When in the Par Editor application, the user has par values 3, 4, 5 to choose from. For the hole number displayed at the top of the screen, pick the corresponding par value for the course about to be played. If a mistake is made when choosing the par values, the Par Editor must be restarted by pressing the HOME navigation button, the the Course information button, then pressing OK to skip the name input process. When all 18 holes’ par value has been entered the user will be returned to the HOME screen.

4.3 Player Information

To enter player information, touch either Player 1 or Player 2 to enter that player’s information. The built-in keyboard will open allowing the user to input the name. DEL will delete a character and SPC will add a space. When the name is finished, push OK and the user will be taken back to the HOME screen.

4.4 Match Type

To choose the match type, push the “match type” button on the HOME screen. The user can select either Match or Stroke game types. Match type gives a point to the player with the least strokes on each hole with a tie resulting in no points for either player. Stroke type will track the total strokes for the entire course and display the above/below par score.

4.5 Scorecard Screen

To get to the scorecard, simply push the SCORECARD navigation button. The scorecard displays course and player data. 9 holes are shown at a time, either the front or the back 9. To toggle between these two views push the control button on the right side of the screen. To select the current hole tap the course information section for the desired hole and the screen will update with the corresponding hole selected with a bounding box. To increment or decrement player 1 or player 2 score for the current hole, use the increment/decrement buttons located at the bottom of the screen or use the supplied remote control when not near the DigiCaddie main unit.

4.6 Download

After attaching COM cable, press download to save the results of your round to your PC.

5.0 Troubleshooting

5.1 Device Will Not Turn On

Ensure that the battery is fully charged and that its connector is attached securely inside the main module. If device still does not turn on, check that the battery is still holding a full charge and that the charger is working correctly.

5.2 Remote Does Not Function or Increments the Wrong Score

If the remote is not functioning at all, remove the two screws on its back and replace the three batteries at the front, ensuring that their polarity is properly aligned. If the remote increments the wrong score, check for sources of radio interference in the vicinity. Unfortunately, there is no way to prevent outdoor interference from affecting the DigiCaddie remote.

5.3 Touch Screen Does Not Respond

If the touch screen is no longer registering contact, return the device to the manufacturer for service.

5.4 Wind Speed Will Not Display

If wind speed does not display, ensure that both ends of the wind speed connector cable are plugged fully into their respective jacks. If both ends are fully inserted, check the cable for any breaks or kinks. In the event that the cable is okay, and wind speed still does not display or displays incorrectly, return the unit to the manufacturer for service.
