1.4  INFORMATIONAL SUBMITTALS

  1. Product Test Reports: For each product, for tests performed by a qualified testing agency.
  2. Evaluation Reports: For foam-plastic insulation, from ICC-ES.

1.5  DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

  1. Protect insulation materials from physical damage and from deterioration due to moisture, soiling, and other sources. Store inside and in a dry location. Comply with manufacturer's written instructions for handling, storing, and protecting during installation.

Retain paragraph below for foam-plastic board insulation.

  1. Protect foam-plastic board insulation as follows:
  2. Do not expose to sunlight except to necessary extent for period of installation and concealment.
  3. Protect against ignition at all times. Do not deliver foam-plastic board materials to Project site until just before installation time.
  4. Quickly complete installation and concealment of foam-plastic board insulation in each area of construction.

2.1  EXTRUDED POLYSTYRENE FOAM-PLASTIC BOARD

  1. Extruded polystyrene boards in this article are also called "XPS boards." Roman numeral designators in ASTMC578 are assigned in a fixed random sequence, and their numeric order does not reflect increasing strength or other characteristics.

Insert drawing designations to identify each product. Use these designations on Drawings to show where each insulation type is required.

2.4  GLASS-FIBER BLANKET

Retain "Sustainability Requirements" Paragraph below if required. Glass-fiber blanket insulation free of formaldehyde is available only from some manufacturers; other manufacturers produce low-emitting insulation certified by the Greenguard Environmental Institute.

  1. Sustainability Requirements: Provide glass-fiber blanket insulation as follows:

Retain either "Free of Formaldehyde" or one of two "Low Emitting" subparagraphs below to suit Project.

  1. Free of Formaldehyde: Insulation manufactured with 100 percent acrylic binders and no formaldehyde.
  2. Low Emitting: Insulation tested according to ASTMD5116 and shown to emit less than 0.05-ppm formaldehyde.

Retain "Low Emitting" Subparagraph below if required for LEED for Schools CreditIEQ4.6.

  1. Low Emitting: Complies with the testing and product requirements of the California Department of Public Health's (formerly, the California Department of Health Services') "Standard Method for the Testing and Evaluation of Volatile Organic Chemical Emissions from Indoor Sources Using Environmental Chambers."

Retain "Recycled Content of Insulation" Paragraph below to specify recycled content if applying for LEEDCreditMR4. An alternative method of dealing with these credit requirements is to retain requirement in Section018113.13 "Sustainable Design Requirements - LEED for New Construction and Major Renovations," Section018113.16 "Sustainable Design Requirements - LEED for Commercial Interiors," or Section018113.19 "Sustainable Design Requirements - LEED for Core and Shell Development" that gives Contractor the option and responsibility to determine how these credit requirements will be met.

  1. Recycled Content of Insulation: Postconsumer recycled content plus one-half of preconsumer recycled content not less than <Insert number> percent.
