SAFE WORK PROCEDURE
DO NOT use this machine or perform this process unless a supervisor / teacher instructed you in safe procedures / operation and have given you authorization to perform associated tasks.
Always use tools and equipment for their intended purposes only.
Always take out of service and report damaged equipment to your supervisor / teacher without delay.
Pre-Job Safety:
1)  With scroll saw disconnected from power source, inspect scroll saw. Replace saw blades that are dull. Ensure saw blade is clean. Ensure that the correct saw blade is installed for the job. Use proper tools to loosen and tighten blade. Blade is installed with the teeth downward (proper blade tension is indicated by a high pitch sound when blade is plucked. Make sure that throat plate is put back in place.
2)  Ensure that scroll saw is guarded and that guard functions smoothly. Hold downs are the minimum required guarding of the scroll saw blade. Do no operate saw without at a minimum the hold down in place.
3)  Inspect electrical cord for frays or damage. If damaged do not use saw, notify instructor.
4)  If unsure of any of these points, consult your supervisor prior to attempting work.
Set Up:
5)  Adjust the hold down for the thickness of stock (hold down should press stock against the table)Set up work piece. Inspect work piece for nails or other foreign materials before cutting/ripping.
6)  Layout cutting line on material
7)  Make sure that the saw is in OFF position before plugging it into a properly grounded outlet.
8)  Don personal protective equipment. Ensure that loose clothing and jewelry are removed. Wear approved safety glasses or face shield and restrain long hair.
Operate / Perform Process:
9)  Start motor and let it reach full speed. Set material on scroll saw table holding firmly with both hands and adjust blower to keep cutting line clear. Focus on task and watch placement of fingers/hand. Use hold down foot and guard in proper position. Do not force stock into saw.
10)  Move stock steadily forward along the cutting line, not forcing the stock or attempting to cut a curve tighter than the blade will allow. (Relief cuts should be made when cutting tight curves. Stop machine to remove off cut from around the blade)
11)  When cut is complete turn off saw letting the blade come to a complete stop before backing out of the cut if necessary.
Post Job Procedure:
12)  Clean up any debris with a broom and dust pan or vacuum if available.
13)  Clean off saw and put back in storage area. If saw or saw or blade is damaged, give to the instructor to lock out.
14)  Report any hazardous situations to your supervisor / instructor immediately.
Lockout:
1.  Unplug scroll saw
2.  Attach plug end lockout device to plug end as per established lockout procedure
3.  Attach lock and tag as rep established lock out procedure.
