Activate / Use a feely box and hide a toy animal in it. Children will use sense of touch to identify the animal. When identified, children will explain how they knew it was a ____. Discuss how some animals have different features.

Teaching / Show a set of animal pictures. Discuss the features of each animal. Sort them by a similar feature such as : how many legs, if it flies, if it has fur, etc.

Summarize / Give out picture cards, two of which will match with a similar feature. Partner students up and have them share a similar feature about the animal.
Day 2

Activate / Use a feely box and hide 2 toy animals in it. Children will use sense of touch to identify the animal. When identified, children will explain how they knew it was a ____ and a _____. Pull them out to observe features and discuss how these animals differ.

Teaching / Go on a nature walk. Find different animals and list them on a chart. Discuss how they are different. Emphasize color, size, appearance, movement, etc.

Summarize / . Guessing game – Hide an animal picture. One child will see it and describe the animal. The class will identify the animal.
