CALL TO ORDER—9:40am

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

WELCOME

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

· With no corrections to be made, the March minutes will stand as posted.

GUEST SPEAKERS – Molly Vargo from YMCA, and Brittany Troyer

· Molly Vargo and Tim Pinchak—YMCA

· Summer programming at YMCA. Please see table for sign ups and brochures for all of our summer programming. May is water safety month—see flyers for sale on private swim lessons. Sports camps and summer camps will be starting soon.

· Live Strong at the YMCA is a cancer survivorship program. Anyone who has been afflicted with cancer is eligible for the program. It allows these people to come to the Y for a 12 week program consisting of two 90 minute sessions a week with a trainer. There is no cost for anyone who has been touched by cancer. Program times and dates TBD, but it will start in May. There is an application process to complete. Ride for a Reason is a fundraiser we are running to support this program. You sponsor stationary bike riders to ride in support of this important program. Please join us on May 16 to ride for this important cause or to sponsor a rider.

· How does opting out of testing affect the teachers and schools? We don’t know, currently. They haven’t told us how the PARCC results will affect teachers.

· Who grades these? Just saw Pearson is sending out applications for graders. So, anyone off the street, with no educational background, can grade them? There is uncertainty at this time as to how the grading will be done, who will do it, and what kind of training/rubrics graders will have.

· There is no new correspondence.

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT – Mr. Pavelich

· Hard to believe we are a few weeks from the end of the year.

· On Thursday, April 30, the NR Education Foundation will honor various school employees. Rich Hrin is being honored this year as Support Staff of the Year. We’re very excited he will be receiving this honor.

· With the preschool and Kindergarten coming to Royal View next year, I have now officially welcomed 17 new staff members from the ECC to Royal View. They are: Preschool teachers—Lori Pekare, Cindy Velotta, Tennile Haugh, and Bri Raleigh; Kindergarten teachers—Jessie Lobaza and Sue Biesiada; MD Intensive teacher—Kathy Filuta; School Psychologist (Preschool and initial evals.)—Laura Becker; Preschool Itinerant Teacher—Stephanie Adams; Rtl/Title (split among buildings)—Leigh Ann Quayle; SLP (PreK)—Laura Kunz; PS Aides—Christine Bratnick, Christine Ragone, Peg Stettin, and Dolly Marshall; Aide (K Int.Spec)—Judy Plonski; Aide (MD Aide)—Lora Rung.

· On Friday, May 15, we are going to host our 50th birthday celebration. It will be an all-day event, with this room being a “museum to the past.” We will have a bounce house or similar activity, “throw back” days, and other fun activities.

· Upon returning from spring break, we found out that Royal View Elementary was formally named as a prestigious hall of fame school by the Ohio Association of Elementary School Administrators (OAESA). We were nominated for the OAESA Hall of Fame School Program in January, and then embarked upon an extensive application process which entailed a committee getting together and writing a 12 page essay entailing everything our school is about. We had a visitation by the program in March. We found out on Monday we were named a 2015 OAESA Hall of Fame School for going above and beyond meeting the needs of our students and for our spirit of inclusion and welcoming feeling. We will receive award recognition and $1000. The program recognizes 10 schools in the state each year.

· This Friday is Family Lego Night from 6:30-8:00pm

· The Art Show last month was phenomenal. Thanks to Miss Trunzo for all of her hard work on it. We did a BOGO Scholastic Book fair during the event as well and sold 770 books. Thanks to Jen Kramer for her organization of this event.

TEACHER REPRESENTATIVE REPORT – Mrs. Morris

· It really does take a village to educate our kids today—the testing is overwhelming.

· The Hall of Fame Award is so exciting!

· Thank you to everyone for all that you do and please let me know if there is anything you would ever like me to speak about!

EXECUTIVE BOARD REPORTS

PRESIDENT – Nellie Wislocki

· Lego Night is Friday night. We still have room if you are interested.

· Founder’s Night is next week, April 23. It is a really fun evening. I will reserve a couple Royal View tables so we can sit together.

· If you want to help with the 50th Birthday Celebration, please sign up.

· Committee Chairs for next year—hopefully you have been getting the emails. I have put the committee chair list online. If you are interested in chairing a committee, please sign up online.

1st VP – Stephanie Kostyack

· Passed door prizes

· For May meeting, we normally do a pot luck. If everyone brings something small, we will have a nice brunch.

2nd VP (Book Fair) – Jen Kramer

· We sold $2,862. We got an extra $250 Scholastic Dollars for having the fair, and we get an extra 10% of sales as a bonus in Scholastic Dollars.

3rd VP (Pictures) – Lisa Adcock

· Spring Pictures went smoothly. Only 30-40 kids. Done in a couple hours, and pictures came back quickly.

· We sold 255 yearbooks.

4th VP (Malley’s) – Gina Mitchner

· Our last Malley’s sale went well. Sold over $5,000 of candy and netted just over $1000.

Council Delegates – Jami Haley and Melissa Crowe

· Mr. Pavelich, Mr. Hill and Mrs. Bogden were at last meeting and spoke about all the coming changes with the ECC closing.

· We had a first place winner at the state level Reflections contest. Emily Hain was the first place winner with her dance entry. “Let Your Imagination Fly,” is the theme for next year.

· NRHS is playing St. Ignatius at Progressive Field next Friday. Not sure if tickets are still available.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Art Show – Mary Ellen Watrobski (March 25)

· Thanks to all the helpers. Sold over 100 frames. Money goes to help pay for the Art Museum traveling suitcases.

Collections (Box Tops, Campbell’s Labels, Sunny D, Tyson) - Michelle Cutright

· Contest starting next Monday for Campbells and Tyson labels, will go two weeks.

Cultural Arts/Reflections – Stephanie Kostyack

· Emily Hain was winner at state level. She will be recognized in Columbus.

4th Grade Memory Book Signing – Gina Mitchner (May 19)

· It will be on May 19.

4th Grade Social – Mary Ellen Watrobski (May 21)

· It is after school. They get a snack and then they get to go into the gym and dance for about an hour.

Health & Wellness/PHNR– Marla Lucarelli

· The PHNR is looking for general committee members for next year. There is a May 20 meeting at 9:00 am at High School Community Room if you are interested.

· MADD is hosting a virtual workshop on April 21. Download a book to discuss effects of alcohol on your child. Visit MADD.org

· CVCC will be hosting a mock car crash prior to prom.

· Upcoming events for next year: two upcoming events include a middle school heroin presentation--Student assembly 9/18, Parent presentation 9/23; basketball player diagnosed with autism will be a keynote speaker.

Muffins with Mom – Lesil Brihn (May 11-14)

· May 11-14. Will send out sign up genius for helpers. Going to see if Giant Eagle Market District will help out with muffins. If not, we’ll stay with CostCo. I can try Corbo’s as well.

Newsletter Editor – Mary Ellen Watrobski

· Anything pertinent through the end of the year, try and get to me by Friday.

Staff Appreciation – Carrie McCarthy & Denise Polverine (May 4-8)

· Hollywood themed week. Red Carpet walk, teacher photos in stars. There will be dress themes for the teachers each day. Lunch catered by Stancato’s the last day of the week for staff.

NEW BUSINESS

· Consider changing the time, date, and/or location of PTA meetings next year.

· We may be able to use the library, we might be better off going offsite. Please keep in mind and come with ideas and we will vote next meeting. We do have to change our date due to conflict with Albion meeting, so I would like to go to second Wednesday of each month, 9:30a.m.
