ROANOKE COLONY MYSTERY ACTIVITY
You are members of a “special team” of investigators from the FBI, and your job is to solve the mystery of Roanoke Island (the disappearance of the first English settlement in the New World.) You will evaluate all the evidence presented and based on your research you will come up with the most logical conclusion to the mystery of the disappearance of the colonists at Roanoke Island.
First you will read 8 articles and complete the “Theory Forms” for them. Please use the “Article Check Off List” to keep track of your articles. Remember you will need to complete a form for each “theory” about what happened to the colonists. Some articles will have one theory so you will only have to fill out one form, but many articles mention more than one theory which means you will need to fill out several forms for those articles. As you read more articles they may be covering theories you already have so you won’t be writing a new theory. You will be adding evidence to the theories you already have. Some theories may have little to no evidence while others will have an abundance of evidence.
After you have completed your theory sheets you need to decide which theory you feel has the most reliable evidence. You must use the App-Telegami to make a video explanation of which theory you feel is the most logical conclusion to the mystery of the disappearance of the colonists at Roanoke. Your video should begin with your theory. Next, in your video you need to use evidence to support your theory. The summary of the evidence that you will be having your character read should be about a paragraph. (5-8 well-written sentences.) You need to save it to Camera Roll then export it to your Google Drive.
You will have today, Thursday 12/12, Friday 12/13 and Monday 12/16 in class to work on this. There will be hard copies of the articles in the classroom. The articles will also be linked on my website. I will have the cart of I-pads in the room so you can also read the articles from the I-pad if you prefer. This will also allow you to work on this assignment at home if you feel you need to. I will be available during this time to help you pull the evidence from the articles if you have any trouble. It is due on Tuesday 12/17. This means your theory sheets and Telegami video are both due at the beginning of the period on Tuesday.
