Senior Quality Engineer

Perform cross-platform testing and quality assurance for the flagship AppManager product.

· Serve as lead tester for the AppManager agent on Solaris, Linux, HP-UX, and AIX platforms.

· Write test plans and test cases from engineering specs for new features in a given product cycle.

· Employ a phased-testing approach through acceptance, functional, system, and regression cycles.

· Utilize the TeamTrack tool for defect reporting, and the Test Director tool for test case storage.

· Create helper programs in Perl and other languages to aid automation of testing tasks.

· Interact with developers, technical writers, and project leads and managers at all stages of the project.

· Validate final deliverable and packaging of product to ensure correctness.

· Train new and existing employees on UNIX and Linux.

Consulted as a UNIX & Linux technologist at San Francisco Bay Area firms.

· Subcontracted to Space Systems / Loral (SS/L) via Lockheed as a UNIX systems administrator.

· Maintained the Solaris systems of the 24/7 mission-control rooms at SS/L during satellite deployments.

· Mentored a junior-level UNIX system administrator while at SS/L.

· Contracted to Silicon Perspective (SP), providing Linux system administration for internal staff.

· Developed needed web apps while at SP, utilizing the Linux + Apache + MySQL + Perl approach.

· Instructed a half-year class on the Perl scripting language at TAOS headquarters.

Computer Systems Technician

Served as the sole technical administrator for the Department of Math, Statistics and Computer Science.

· Provided complete service of the 1000+ user, 250+ machine environment.

· Supported a heterogeneous mix of Solaris, Linux, MS Windows, and Mac platforms.

· Programmed numerous task automation systems in Perl, Shell script, C, and PHP languages.

· Developed a custom, embedded Linux solution to improve poor-performing Sun JavaStation thin-clients. This Linux solution saved the department from prematurely replacing the machines. When finally retired in 2003, the improved Linux-powered systems had served faithfully for 7 years.
