Please note:
1. You should address and make a specific claim against each of the three areas below. (The limitations of the GTA role will be taken into account when applications in this category are assessed.)
2. Make sure that you provide evidence to support your claims throughout (see the Guidance Notes for an illustrative list.) This evidence should be explicitly referenced in and interleaved into your narrative, not simply provided as a separate collection or ‘portfolio’ of documents.
3. Applications in the ‘Early Career’ and ‘Experienced’ categories should be accompanied by at least one supporting statement from the applicant’s department/school/section. If departments/schools/sections are submitting more than one application in one category, an explanatory letter should also be sent to the Panel.
4. Applicants’ statements should be no more than 2500 words in total length.
The criteria for the award have been aligned with the National Teaching Fellowship Scheme (NTFS) and it is envisaged that successful applicants to the ‘Experienced’ strand of the award may also be considered for submission to the NTFS.
1.  Individual excellence
Evidence of promoting and enhancing the student learning experience
In this section you should address how you promote and enhance the student learning experience through your teaching and learning support practice (in ways appropriate to your individual context and the opportunities which this gives you). This might be demonstrated, for example, by providing evidence of:
§  stimulating students’ curiosity and interest in ways which inspire a commitment to learning;
§  organising and presenting high quality resources in accessible, coherent and imaginative ways which in turn clearly enhance students’ learning;
§  recognising and actively supporting the full diversity of student learning needs;
§  drawing upon the results of relevant research, scholarship and professional practice in ways which add value to teaching, support and guidance and students’ learning;
§  engaging with and contributing to existing literature and/or resources for learning and teaching.
2.  Raising the profile of excellence
Evidence of supporting colleagues and influencing support for student learning in your department and the institution
In this section you should address how you support colleagues and influence support for student learning in your department/school/section and within the institution. If you can demonstrate impact and engagement beyond your immediate academic and professional role, please discuss this here. These activities might be demonstrated, for example, by providing evidence of:
§  making significant contributions to colleagues’ professional development in relation to promoting and enhancing student learning;
§  contributing to departmental/faculty/institutional/national initiatives to facilitate student learning;
§  contributing to and/or supporting meaningful and positive change with respect to pedagogic practice, policy and/or procedure.
3.  Developing excellence
Commitment to your ongoing professional development
In this section you should give evidence of your commitment to your ongoing professional development with regard to teaching and learning and/or learning support. This might be demonstrated, for example, by providing evidence of:
§  on-going review and enhancement of individual professional practice;
§  engaging in professional development activities which enhance your expertise in teaching and learning support;
§  engaging in the review and enhancement of your own professional and/or academic practice;
§  specific contributions to significant improvements in the student learning experience.
Please submit your application (with any supporting statements, as required) electronically to and in signed hardcopy to Dr Ruth Windscheffel, Learning and Development, 4SB.5.4 by 5pm on Friday 4 March 2016
