Spelling – Go over page 110 sorting the spelling words…review suffixes and how they are added to words to make adjectives. Write words 16-30 three times each, cursive handwriting. Spelling and vocabulary page 111, replace underline words with word that has the same meaning, change underline affixes to make a spelling word, match a spelling word with its antonym, identify parts of speech for spelling words.
Reading – Go over vocabulary words. Internet quiz to check if students read the story. Students give oral summary . Read and discuss story going over reading check questions.
Grammar – Using pronouns correctly, page 107-08

Spelling – Go over page 111, page 112 complete sentences, draw conclusions, and complete paragraph…use context clues to finish sentences. Handwriting….cursive quote
Reading – finish reading and discussing the story. literary analysis questions on conflict and resolution, homework if not finished in class.
Grammar – Pronouns: Possessive and Indefinite page 109-110…Writing book pg 430, 749
Thursday – January 5, 2012
Spelling – Practice test, go over page 112, proofread a paragraph…correct paragraph writing it in cursive.
Reading – Identify the conflict and resolution of the first wish…and smaller conflicts that build toward the main conflict…go over charts they did. Review voc for Amigo Brothers…read silently writing a summary describing Antonia and Fleix and the conflict they are facing and how they solved it.
Grammar – Pronouns: Interrogative…pg 113-114 …Writing book pg 430

Spelling test
Reading – Self-test on internet. Students will read summaries of the story and discuss story. Reading Skills questions 5 -7 on inference. Go over conflict how the smaller conflicts lead to the bigger conflicts and how it was resolved.

Spelling – Unit 15 Frequently misspelled words. Read the spelling words in list form and context. Sort the basic words according to number of syllables, review spelling strategy. Page 118, sort basic words and write words 1-15 three times each in cursive.
Reading – Go over reading skills questions on inference. Review both stories for a test tomorrow.

Go over page 118 , review number of syllables and rules for syllables. Word meaning and structure , and dictionary usage page 119, write words 16-30 three times each in cursive.

Go over page 119. Page 120 use context clues to complete sentences and an announcement. Page 121 proofread a paragraph writing it in cursive of handwriting assignment.

Writing…Speech writing. Go over skills and strategies of speeches…add notes to notebook. Students will choose their topics for their speeches. Speeches should be ready to be delivered to the class on January 18, 2012

Homework if not finished in class.

Reading – Introduce story “Ribbons.” Go over background…cultural differences of people. Talk about some advice we might give people that are from two different cultures that are meeting for the first time. Talk about how this will relate to our story. Students will read the story silently…answer reading check questions…
