Readiness Assessment Scenario 1

A young woman indicates that she wants to move in with her boyfriend as a SILP. Although there is no evidence of physical abuse, based on the description the youth has offered previously about the relationship it appears very volatile and potentially emotionally abusive. For example the youth has reported in the past that her boyfriend has told her that she’s stupid and could never go to college. He is also 10 years older than she is and they have split up at least once previously that you are aware of. The youth is very insistent that the relationship is good now and she really wants to move in with him.

Readiness Assessment Scenario 2

A young man comes to the social worker indicating that he wants to change his placement because he is not getting along with his roommates and is going to move in with some different friends. This is the 3rd time that he is requesting a change in placement over three months, each time due to conflict with roommates.

Readiness Assessment Scenario 3

While doing a unit inspection of a house, prior to the youth moving in, the social worker notices a crack pipe sitting on the living room table. While at the site three separate people come by the house, go into a bedroom for 5-10 minutes with one of the other housemates and then leave. She suspects that this roommate may be selling crack but does not have proof of this.

Readiness Assessment Scenario 4

A youth just obtained part-time employment two weeks ago. Combined with the SILP payment, the youth has enough income to move into an apartment with some friends and he wants to move in the first of the month which is next week. If he doesn’t take the room by the first, his friends will need to rent it to someone else. Although his job has been going okay so far, this is the first job the youth has ever had and he has a history of having trouble with authority.
