STUDENT TEACHING PROGRAM

Reflective Journal Procedures and Prompts

Student teachers are required to write two journal entries each week during student teaching.

Ø  One entry should address two of the questions below.

Ø  The other entry can be a free write whereby the student teacher shares a significant achievement or situation from the student teaching experience including personal reflection.

Ø  The journals will be emailed to your college supervisor each week.

Curriculum, Planning and Instruction

·  Which of the INTASC Principles were addressed in my teaching and work today? How were they addressed? What evidence do I have for that?

·  How did I address the Indiana Academic Standards in my teaching today (in addition to writing them on the lesson plans)?

·  How has the Taylor Lesson Plan helped me plan effectively?

·  What teaching strategy was effective today?

·  What technique did I use that was not successful? Why do I think it was not successful?

·  What are some questions I have used that require higher-level thinking?

·  What learning styles are represented in my classroom? How have I adapted the curriculum to meet the needs of those students?

·  What accommodations have I made to meet the needs of special education students in my classroom?

·  *What evidences do I have that my students learned today? How can I prove that?

Classroom Management

·  What concerns do I have related to classroom management?

·  What classroom management procedures were effective today? What specific techniques have I used to stop misconduct appropriately?

Interpersonal Skills

·  How have I established a warm and caring relationship with my students?

·  How do I communicate high expectations for student achievement?

·  How did I interact with parents today?

Other

·  What happened today that makes me know this is the career for me?

·  How did I impact others spiritually today?

Be sure to address this question at least once in each student teaching experience.
