This is a short check list to get you started when pursuing a career in music. Use it as a guide for some of the things you should be doing. Feel free to edit this document and track your progress.

Master Your Talent

· Record yourself and determine what you need to work on.

· Test small sections of your target markets to see what they think of you.

· Research the musicians in your genre who are doing well in terms of social shares, people talking about them and the like.

· Make sure your talent is better than at least 80% of other musicians in your genre before you start fully promoting yourself.

Learn The Music Business

Fan Capture

· Set up a Twitter account

· Set up a Youtube account.

Get Your Music / Life Balance Right

· Make sure nothing non essential is taking up your time (e.g. too much TV / excessive hanging out with friends).

· Determine how much time a week you've got for music and stick to at least that.

· Draw yourself up a schedule for when you should be working on your music.

· Ensure your family is getting enough of your time.
