1  .NET 4.0 Overview

1.1  Recent Versions

Microsoft .NET 4.0 must be installed on target machines in order to execute the Background Check System (BCS) application on that machine. Multiple versions of the .NET Framework are available (listed in the following table), but the BCS has been compiled to run on the 4.0 Framework only (highlighted in red and marked with an asterisk in the table below).

1.2  System Requirements

Ensure that the following system requirements are met or exceeded by the target installation system on which the .Net 4.0 Framework will be installed.

Processor / Minimum 1GHz processor or equivalent
Operating System / Windows Server 2008 R2 (Recommended, preferred Service Pack 1); Windows Server 2008; Windows Server 2003; Windows 7; Windows 7 SP1
Memory / 2GB-4GB (Recommended)
Hard Disk / 2GB of available space may be required
Assumptions / Installation user must have local administrative privileges

2  .NET 4.0 – Verification

Before installing .NET 4.0, look in Program and Features on the target machine to see if it is already installed; click: Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.

If the .NET 4.0 Framework is displayed in the list, this task is complete, and you do not need to install the software. If it is not displayed or if the wrong version is displayed, continue to the installation instructions in section 3 below.

3  .NET 4.0 – Installation

1.  Download .NET 4.0 at the following MS web site link: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=17851.

2.  Execute the .NET 4.0 installation file.

3.  Monitor installation of .NET 4.0 (you must have administrative privileges on the target machine). Authorize installation via the User Account Control confirmation by clicking Yes and following the wizard until completion.
