October is Recuitment Month
"Our Chapter Just DOUBLED!"

Beta Nu of Prattville, AL did recruitment month up big, going from seven to seventeen members this week. Member Lynda Edwards explains, "As SERC President, I've made room on the agenda at the Richmond conference for a brainstorming session about membership because our SERC membership statistics were really sobering last year at IC convention. But I knew I can't ask everyone to work on something unless I committed to do it too. So Beta Nu decided to have a recruitiment party in October for Recruitment Month."
The chapter invited 8 younger guests, a group of friends who already enjoyed volunteering together, one of whom is Jennifer Middleton, daughter of Beta Nu member Deb Middleton. Deb shares, "These ladies already love helping people and work well together. They were really enthusiastic when we explained that ESA is a great framework to be able to make an even bigger difference in our community together. They ALL joined, we are so excited! We even have 2 reinstatements that also came to our party. These new members are already helping with our Belk Stores charity event for St. Jude. We are a blended chapter, us long-timers and this wonderful group of new members. We'll work on some of our favorite traditional projects, they'll be working on some new ones and we'll support each other! We don't know exactly where this will lead all of us, but we are really looking forward to what Beta Nu becomes together, we'll figure it out! The important thing is they are part of ESA now and our organization is stronger because of them."
Legacy Memberships
At the recent MARC conference in Minneapolis, ESA HQ Executive Director Charlotte Carloni spoke about the opportunity ESA has to grow this year through Legacy Memberships. Encourage members to take advantage of the Legacy program and welcome members of their own family to our ESA family. Close relatives of currently active members join at a reduced rate ($49 Legacy vs $69 regular). This is something even individual members/MALs can do to help ESA grow. You may sponsor a relative who lives anywhere in the country, Pat Howerton of Washington sponsored her daughter and granddaughter in Oregon (Omega Mu, Albany OR).
Consider creating a statewide push for Legacy members this year. Perhaps a celebration of new Legacy members in the form of a family fun day, special trip, or other statewide celebration would be a good way to encourage participation.
Note: Legacy members need to join via paper application, available on theRecruitment page of the member center, because the online system only accepts $69 for new members. CLICK TO REQUEST A PAPER APPLICATION VIA EMAIL

Kaycee presents Madison with her lamp pin
Pat Howerton (Alpha Theta, Naselle WA) shares, "I have to credit the legacy membership program with getting my daughter Kaycee Headley and granddaughter Madison into ESA. I was able to originally enroll them without any effort on their part. At first, it was a way to get them involved in what I was doing; then after a little while, they each started coming into their own with ESA."
