Part 2: Facebook and the Egyptian Revolution – Analysis of sources

You have just learned about Primary and Secondary sources. Facebook is a medium that contain primary sources on a current even from many different points of view. Your job is to analyze posts from the facebook page: We Are All Khaled Said to learn more about how facebook was used during the Egyptian Revolution. You will need to analyze 4-5 posts from each phase of the revolution:

1.  Beginning through January 25, 2011

2.  January 26 – February 11th

3.  February 11th through end of March

Describe post: what type is it? (photo, news article etc) / Who posted this? Where are they from? / What point of view might this poster have? How do you know this is their point of view? / What does this post tell you about the Egyptian Revolution and the Arab Spring?
Beginning through 1/25
1/26-2/11
2/11 – End of March

For debrief/discussion:

What can facebook in general tell you about both historic and current events?

Would it be a valid news source if you are trying to find out about something that is happening?

Go to January25Voices on Twitter. What is different about the information on Twitter to what you saw on Facebook? What might Twitter be better for?
